Ezek 37:1; The hand of the LORD was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones.
Ezek 37:2; He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry.
Ezek 37:3; He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" And I answered, "O Lord GOD, You know."
Has God ever put you in the midst of dry bones? Things that were dead? Perhaps even people who were dead but didn't know it.
There was a popular Bruce Willis movie from several years back, one of the famous lines in the moves was.. "I see dead people".
Have you ever wondered why you were there? At least two reasons come to mind.
Ezek 37:4; Again He said to me, "Prophesy over these bones and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.'
Ezek 37:5; "Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones, 'Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life.
Ezek 37:6; 'I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the LORD.'"
Ezek 37:7; So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.
God tells Ezekiel, prophesy over these bones. Those old dead dry bones. We may not know it, but we can speak to the dead. Those who don't know Jesus yet.
When God tells us what to say to them, they can come to life. We serve a God that change lives, change hearts, and bring souls to life.
Ezek 37:8; And I looked, and behold, sinews were on them, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them.
Ezek 37:9; Then He said to me, "Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they come to life."'"
Ezek 37:10; So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
Ezek 37:11; Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.'
Sometimes it seems hopeless. We have praying for something. Praying for a loved one to get saved perhaps. But they are so dead... their bones are just so dry.
Yet when God starts moving.... the deadest, driest bones can come to life. God can put a new breath of life onto the dead bones.
I notice a few things about this passage. God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones. Now perhaps God could have caused them to come to life with Ezekiel saying anything to the bones.
But God specifically told Ezekiel to prophesy to these bones. Sometimes we may think the unsaved can't hear or understand what we are saying... but it doesn't matter.
When we do what God asks us to do... we might be amazed at what happens.
After after the bones had flesh and muscle and sinew on them..... they had the ability to live... but they weren't alive yet. So God tells Ezekiel to prophesy a second time.
He tells Ezekiel prophesy to the breath. It's when this breath enter these beings that actually come back to life. Bones without flesh, sinew, muscle and blood don't normally come to life.
There is no way for a skeleton to breathe. Sometimes our prayers and prophecies toward people should have two parts. First to prepare them to be able to receive life.
And then, for them to actually receive life.
Another things this passage has taught me. Is to let go of things. Get out of Gods way. Quit holding on to things. Truly let some things die. Sometimes we want something so bad.
We want someone to love us, or forgive us, or for them to talk to us... we keep forcing it to happen on our terms. Sometimes you have to let it die. It's hard thing to do.
Let that relationship completely die. It can't come back to life unless it is completely dead.
