Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. Isaiah 55:2 NLT
On June 1, 2018, competitive eating champion Joey Chestnut set the record for eating Hostess Donettes when he downed 257 of the miniature doughnuts in six minutes.
Doughnuts are delicious. They come in a variety of flavors and fillings, but they all share one thing in common: they have almost no nutritional value. Eating one leaves you feeling like you have a hole in your middle as soon as you finish eating it. Even after eating 257 Hostess Donettes, Joey Chestnut probably could have eaten a few more.
Empty calories won’t satisfy your hunger, and empty worship won’t satisfy your soul.
Isaiah 55 is a universal invitation by God to join in a feast designed to satisfy your cravings. “Is anyone thirsty?” asks God in Isaiah 55:1. “Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free!”
Are you trying to fill up on your own achievements? You’ve been invited to the feast of worshipping God. Come, listen to His wisdom, partake in His goodness, fill up on His mercy. Take delight in the God who satisfies perfectly.
Prayer: God, knock the doughnut out of my hand and feed me from Your Word!
