"His lord said to him, 'Well [done], good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' Matthew 25:21

Jesus told parables to help people understand spiritual truths. Some understood. Some did not. This was a parable about investing. Three men were given money by their boss. He expected that while he was away they'd invest the money in a way that would provide a financial return. It would also allow him to see how they handled responsibility, and who could be trusted.

The first two men increased the funds they'd been given. The third simply buried the money in the ground and gave back the money when his employer returned. Sure, the boss got his money back, but he wasn't very impressed by the employee.

God has invested in your life, and He wants to see if He can trust you to do something with what he's given you. He may not give you more until He sees what you do with what He's already given. You need to do more than acknowledge the gift and then bury it.

Prayer: God, it's an honor to know that I've been given something that You can use to help others. May I use that gift for Your benefit. Help me not to hide it and waste the opportunity.

you know the master says to the guy who burried the talent something along the lines you could of at least put it in the bank so I could of earn interest. For some reason I always get a feeling that the bank could of been implying that at the very least tithe ..

Hello Brother Dave,
Actually I do believe Jesus did actually mean bank. If I'm not mistaken the use of banks, maybe not quite like the ones in this day, go back to 2000 BC. Also, I believe that the OT covered the weights & measures concept also had to deal with the exchange of goods for coinage. Loaning of money as well is covered in OT as well as usury.

However, I'm with you that this man probably would have been better off if he had tithed what he was given instead of burying it! However, then the parable would not have had the same significance would it? :-)

Thanks for sharing brother.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
