A friend from church, back from a study trip abroad after three years of silence, asked about me for two consecutive Sundays. On the third Sunday, I got her phone number and called her. She told me she just wanted to say hello. She was back from the USA. I then told her I had found someone to speak English with every day, but she replied that I'm an English teacher and I told her she had lived in a country where she spoke and breathed English every day.
I met her the following Sunday, the fourth Sunday, 26 July 2026: She saw me walk by and called out to me. I turned around, and we hugged. She said goodbye to the two people she was talking to, and then I walked her to the main gate where she took a taxi home. She asked me several questions, wanting to know all the news about me since she left the country. I told her I'm still single and that I'm now a salaried teacher. This last piece of news delighted her.
Before her trip abroad, we used to communicate 11by text message and phone calls, and at the end of the service, she always came to the Christian literature stand to say hello. She's a member of the Parish Protocol team and of NAVIGATORS, an international interdenominational Christian ministry.
I visited her at home once. She was living with her parents. Her mother, a teacher, was my classmate at university. She still lives with her parents. A sister who's a member of the Parish Protocol team told me today that, on the first Sunday after her return, my friend whispered in her ear to ask about me. And during my friend's absence, this sister kept asking about her, referring to her as my wife. This sister told me that sometimes, after church, my friend and I walked together. It was this same sister who came to tell me about my friend's return, saying, "Your wife is back." That was the last time she called her that ("your wife").
I want to deepen our relationship and make room for her in my heart if that's what God and she want.
What does this mean? How should I react?
