@PloughBoy note: if GOD hates the sin, Then how come he sends the Sinner to Hell and not The Sin? I have never read where GOD sent the sin to hell. He send SINNERS! AIN'T NO Sins Going To HELL!:eyes:

I have opened this thread to continue the discussion of this line from Ploughboy. Not wanting to put you on the spot @PloughBoy ;), but I think the point you made makes for a very interesting discussion.

I would say God definitely hates sin and not sinners. The reason you have given for Him hating sinners is not sound imo. Hell is a home for sinners, it speaks to His love for them.

There are a few scriptures that many cherry pick to support God hating people. The most popular is probably Mal 1:2 I loved Jacob, but Esau I hated. This verse and others mentioning ''God hates someone'' are so hotly contested among scholars. The context in this case for example is simply that God did not choose Esau. Not that God hated Esau. Why did God love Jacob and hate Esau (Malachi 1:3; Romans 9:13)? | GotQuestions.org

Those who believe God ''hates'' the sinner, need to support their belief with examples of 'hatred' from God. Not simply find a scripture that says He hates ''evildoers''. Hate is a strong word. It implies zero love. There is simply no such thing with God to any person. Thus, I propose that all those who espouse God hates sinners and not their sin, are guilty of cherry picking scriptures and not properly representing God to the lost.

God is love 1 John 4:8. He can only love. He is just in all His ways Isa 30:18. Therefore, when sinners go to hell, it is simply as a result of His righteous judgement. Not of hate for them.

Hatred is darkness. There is no darkness in God 1 John 1:5.

Rom 5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I would say both. But everyone is a sinner, so does God hate everyone? No, only those who have been given chances to accept Him and reject Him.

Malachi 1:3; but I have hated Esau, and I have made his mountains a desolation and appointed his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness."
Romans 9:13; Just as it is written, "JACOB I LOVED, BUT ESAU I HATED."

Heb 12:15; See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;
Heb 12:16; that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.
Heb 12:17; For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

On the other hand...

Deut 12:31; "You shall not behave thus toward the LORD your God, for every abominable act which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
Deut 16:22; "You shall not set up for yourself a sacred pillar which the LORD your God hates.

Prov 6:16; There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
Prov 6:17; Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood,
Prov 6:18; A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil,
Prov 6:19; A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.

Although I would think He hates both, His hatred is different than human hatred, just as His love is also different. God knows how actions taken in anger and hatred can seem harsh after accomplished. God knows we are weak and has compassion on us despite his hatred of our sins.

Deut 18:9; "When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations.
Deut 18:12; "For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you.

Tim 1:16; They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.
