Does God cause sickness as a test?

S.I.E

Sorry S.I.E........ I pasted your quote in the wrong place.... and not to be used with my statement underneath it....

This man lost his family, This man is talking about a bullet in his brain... and you say that is our God??? Really???.
I meant your statement about all of life being a test in which we are graded is something I fully agree with. From how we handle bad things to Good things make a impact on things to come.

Sorry if I let your quote get misplaced after I added other stuff.... I was using your quote as a point.. that everything we face and do... is important...and we are told in scripture to do them unto the Lord....

Jiggyfly:
If God does not allow it but it exist then God must not be able to prevent it. You seem to think that sickness is beyond God's control and power.
We seem to disagree, I believe God is sovereign

Sovereign means a class by itself, supreme rule, rank and power. It is no indication that God breaks his word, or man can not be responsible for dumb things. To allow something, is no indication that one has no power to prevent it.... A Sovereign God will keep his word....

let him ask in faith nothing wavering... for he that waivers is like the sea tossed with the wind.... let not that man "THINK" he shall receive anything from God.

You suppose it's the man who controls what he receives, or God??

I have a bunch, and I mean a bunch more....scriptures... but I am sure you already know them..

Jesus Is Lord.

I think you misunderstood BM, my point is that if God doesn't allow sickness yet sickness exist, then it exists without God allowing it making it above or beyond His authority or power.

If God has the power and means to prevent sickness but does not prevent it then He allows it. Pretty simple at least in my paradigm.

Allow>
to forbear or neglect to restrain or prevent <allow the dog to roam>

and edification is telling someone who lost their family and thinking about a bullet to the brain is for God's use and purpose??

Your thoughts and your reasoning have yet to have answered What scripture is there that God uses sickness for his own good. It was designed to kill you if you read Deut 28:

Why did Jesus go and Heall ALL that were sick and oppressed of the devil, if Sickness could have helped them in some way?

Your mixing things we go through in this cursed earth which we are told to overcome by faith and pinning it all on God, and accusing him of things that are not even in the scripture...

Don't feel bad....... Please... I enjoy when someone like Jiggfly pins me to the carpet with scriptures and makes me actually examine them and possibly change my stance on things... It's why we are here, and if we can't answer then it's a good sign we need to change some ways we believe..
Jesus Is Lord.

I thank you for your effort to help me... but I just don't believe the same things you believe, so nothing you say is going to help me. I don't really understand anything you've posted either... its kinda confusing. Do I feel bad? Yes, because of the things you have said to me; you have hurt me, not helped me. Again, what you believe and what I believe are two different things. I believe that God can use anything and everything to help me... I don't know what you believe. I have been through sickness in my life and grown closer to God; I've seen with my eyes that way God can use sickness to help me, and help others... because He has done it before my eyes. I live my life by the things I see God do... not only by verses in the Bible. It is a life I live, not just a life I read.

I know I am young and don't know everything about God, and if that makes me stupid... so be it, but I am very strong in what I do believe about God and what I've posted is what I believe. PERIOD. If you don't agree, that is perfectly fine... again, don't really care because you aren't helping me. I'd rather be like a child in Christ than a old blind pharisee with a hardened heart. And I will forever be a child in Christ.

I know that I am edifying the church and I know I am indeed growing in Christ and that the knowledge I have is from God, and if you don't agree, again... I don't really care. So I appreciate your effort, but you just aren't helping me at all, all you've said has only hurt me. There are thousands of Godly people that are helping me, though, so don't worry, you just aren't one. I don't know what you believe... but I know what I believe and that hasn't changed, in fact my beliefs have only grown stronger.

So God bless your beliefs and He will bless mine also. I won't believe what you believe, and you wont believe what I believe. You believe what you want, I'll believe what I want. The End.

Amen, and Amen to that AudreyNicole. Yes. Stand on what you know! Well done...

You're far from stupid AudreyNicole. You are speaking deep wisdom here. Thanks for sharing it.

sickness....exist

Jiggyfly:

I think you misunderstood BM, my point is that if God doesn't allow sickness yet sickness exist, then it exists without God allowing it making it above or beyond His authority or power.
I understood your point there Brother... and without a ton of scriptures... could it be possible for God not to do something even if he has the ability to stop it??
Like the times he turned his back, asked them to go ask their false Gods for help, ear is far from the prayer of a sinner, and many more scriptures. People without God and hope in this world..

We both agree God has more than enough power to stop it... With a Word he could boil our oceans and move every mountain out of place... HOWEVER.............

Is it possible to have power over everything, but yet mans actions and agreement with God can produce different outcomes... can two walk together unless they be agreed??

AudreyNicole
God can use anything and everything to help me.
I think I may have gone over your head here.....

everything we go through should be a learning experience....and should make us stronger. But is it the design of God to cause, to use, or to put us in misery so that we learn....

That has been the whole topic for many threads.... sorry if I caused you discomfort....

Jesus Is Lord.

Legally the manufacturer is liable for his product.
It was a foreseeable risk to allow Adam access to the knowledge of good and evil.I'm afraid the manufacturer would be liable for damages for allowing, whether by design, error or neglect, one man to cause death to enter an entire people.
I would not award punitive damages however because there is insufficient evidence that the designer did this out of malice.
Also it does appear to this court(me)that the manufacturer has done everything in his power to deliver this people from death(sent son) and has compensated qualified individuals by turning their loss into a positive experience.

Ultimately I have to say the design that allowed the fall is why there is sickness.
The reason for this type of design remains elusive.
I will not embrace sickness I will apply kingdom principles and with God's help, overcome evil with good.

I think that's what Audrey was saying(at least that's how I took it).
You said "we can" Audrey said "God can".I do understand the difference but it is subtle.
God did give us tools and authority to overcome evil with good.
To both heal and if it's a stubborn case to actually turn it into good.

So...sickness? Death?

It is ultimate grace. Thank God for it. Even though it is painful and horrifying to the human mind...the final chapter is what??? Beautiful!

Thank God we live in a world full of sickness and death. This is not our ultimate place to live for eternity. We have a sure-fire plan to get off this world. It's a temporary place for us.
That's it man, overcome evil by seeing the art in God,the beauty in being part of his painting.Oh,to be a blob on his palette and to be applied with his loving stokes.
Thanks S.i.e. that makes my cross a little lighter...

thank you audreynicole for your your encouragement and hope, to others you seem to be more worried about being right than caring or concerned about anything else, one person answered me to encourage me and still others found fault with her reply. is it about being right or helping others.

Absolutely which would mean that He allowed it, I think we are agreed, not saying God caused it but rather allowed it.

God allowed.

I think I have been taken again..... I have nothing to argue with that wisdom though.... Rest assured our definition of "Allowed" has to be different... but I allowed the cup to fall off the table... I must have had knowledge of the cup about to fall, but could have stopped it....

how can it be different???

Another one for Jiggyfly....sigh.............

smitty:

God has to be in this, or what hope do i have. if He is not with me in this then what is the point .

If God is involved in this, then what help do you have? Who can fight God?? If it's more you need to learn, if it's the same devil that oppressed and crippled the daughter of Abraham for 18 years until Jesus set her free... then you can have complete victory.

God is not into breaking up family's, He is not into keeping you mentally depressed. If you believe he is part of the problem, or just not moved to help you then there is not much left to be done.

If you actually want answer's.... then you have not even gotten started yet.. and that is the good news... If you PM me, I'll send some things free to watch... and it's time to put the devil in his place..

<DIR>Php 2:25 Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need; Php 2:26 since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.Php 2:27 For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. Php 2:28 Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful. Php 2:29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem; Php 2:30 because for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life, to supply what was lacking in your service toward me.

huh Mikey? Good news, eh?

And as for the "you have not even gotten started yet" I thought you were the one who earlier accused us of not offering much help or empathy for smitty, and then you say this?

By the way smitty -- the way I'm interacting in this thread is my way of trying to offer you empathy and help. I understand if it's not a warm/fuzzy empathetic voice...but I believe you are being given some very bad advice, so I consider it loving to try to point towards life and love, and I believe that's what I'm offering. Your pain is not lost on me. I've found myself in your shoes (at least, from the feelings you're saying you're having...albeit a different set of circumstances for me) before. And I've found life through a leaning into your pain, not a running from it, or a type of self-denial and betrayal of heart.

You can only find life, ultimately, by using the Operating System that runs on grace, not the O.S. that runs on sin management, with one of the killer-app's being self-denial.

Some interesting scriptures:

Ac 12:21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
Ac 12:22 And the people gave a shout, [saying, It is] the voice of a god, and not of a man.
Ac 12:23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

Ex 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I [am] the LORD that healeth thee.

2Ch 21:12 . And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,
2Ch 21:13 But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a *******, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, [which were] better than thyself:
2Ch 21:14 Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:
2Ch 21:15 And thou [shalt have] great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
2Ch 21:16 Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that [were] near the Ethiopians:
2Ch 21:17 And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
2Ch 21:18 And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.
2Ch 21:19 And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

huh Mikey? Good news, eh?

And as for the "you have not even gotten started yet" I thought you were the one who earlier accused us of not offering much help or empathy for smitty, and then you say this?

I have been doing this for a few Years S.I.E.... Helping other, Pastor a Church.....Homeless shelters, prison, marriages... All kinds of sickness, and even things where devils have actually were moving things around in a home and people "Seeing" things..

One women that had cancer, I had sat across a table from her, and told her... "You don't have to put up with this." She would agree with me, yet never get serious on thinking the Word of God was her answer, she said she wanted help, and yet did not...
The cancer was worse than she thought, and left two young children and a husband behind...

We had the dog of a dead young boy, who's mom I had found living in cars and far from God... Got her off the street, God moved in awesome ways... got her to think things would change, and they did... She got her kids back... and yet.. she decided to hook up with a unsaved man, and stop reading her word. The very Word, the very God the pulled her out of all her trouble, even gave her a two story house for nothing...
She lost it all, even the life of her son, and I could do nothing but watch.
Her boy died at 7:00pm exactly when the Lord to me and another Pastor at the same time to command his spirit to him..

A few months back, another young father died... that guy use to come to Church to hear me preach... would sit in the front row.. Drunk as a skunk, but at least he came to church.... The hours I spent with him, and his son..... yet, now he's dead as his liver could not longer function..

I don't know much of anything S.I.E........ However, I have learned a few things.... You have to discern on who wants help, and who does not.... If you don't, you will waste precious time getting to know someone who is not going to make it...

If you read Smitty's comment...

i have been to counseling, have been on meds, prayered for, fasted, and stood on the word of God, yet my depression, anxiety, and paranoia still is with me after many years.

We have someone that believes they already did everything. People just assume that their faith was good enough, they assume they knew everything about the Word, That they were expert prayers and if they did not get well, then it can't be anything they did wrong.. So we write a book on how God does not want everyone healed..

Then the man that had brain cancer.. He came to pray over my boy, and I loved this man... My own son had cancer... He stood up in Church and told everyone that God was going to heal him... Everyone prayed for him, and the brain cancer went away for 6 months..

One day we saw him at a card shop... and asked how he was doing... He said... "I don't know if I am healed yet.." Just then the Lord Spoke to me.. and told me... "My people do not understand faith. he will be with me soon."
It can be something simple as not being in agreement with God. Who can prosper in the Word if we do all things correct, and yet we steal money from time to time...

I have learned.... If I don't get my healing, if things are not working, if things don't turn around, then it has to be me.... It has to be something I don't know, or have learned in the Word... It can't be God. I have had a long list of faith failures....and disappointments.. It was never God... it was me, that needed to learn, and understand.

If you believe God is using sickness to help you in some way, or that it's God's will that your not well. If you believe that all "YOU" have done was enough, and there is nothing else to learn.... then there is nothing more to do...

But if one will humble themselves...say..."Father, I missed you somewhere, I know your word says that by his stripes I am healed.. Show me what I need to know..." that is where the victory starts... God's Word can never fail... never...

Jesus Is Lord.

Job 1::5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.

Formulas only go so far my friend, eventually you will come to one of those cases that Jesus spoke of when he said "This kind does not come forth without prayer and fasting".Keep in mind Jesus prayed and fasted 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness and had the Holy Spirit in full measure.I do not feel he specifically meant prayer and fasting over this particular situation because he obviously did it right away.

Notice Jesus did not require the possessed young man to do or understand anything at all.It was a rescue 911 situation.
Fear of a hole in your hedge "is" a hole in your hedge.

If I don't get my healing, if things are not working, if things don't turn around, then it has to be me.... It has to be something I don't know, or have learned in the Word
It does not have to be you or the person needing healing that is wrong about some jot or tittle. There are variables that plug into the formula.
Many have not been revealed so sometimes all we CAN do is rest in his finished work and love as commanded.Any formula used to subdue darkness is temporary and you end up playing "whack a mole".

Fear, a hole in the hedge...

Fear of a hole in your hedge "is" a hole in your hedge.

I like that!!!!

This kind does not come forth without prayer and fasting

Interesting....... many believe this was added somewhere and not part of scripture...
Pray and faster never moved any devil.. but time with God, building faith does...

fasting was added by someone, and not even mentioned in some bibles.. It was later proven to be duplicated over in Mark 9:29 for consistency... Make your own judgment call on that..... Fasting is a good thing... but out of context here..

TRANSLATION ERRORS AND FORGERIES IN THE BIBLE
Why does Matthew 17:21 exist only as a footnote in the King James Bible?

Job 1:5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.

Was Job doing this in faith of God's protection... or could it been out of fear of loss?? This was not a simple prayer... but something that took time and preparation, and Job did this continually..... meaning he did not believe that he received... (Mark 11:24)

Fear will motivate someone to do such things... and Job said it was those things he Feared the most.. that is what happened to him...

(Job 3:25)

Jesus is Lord.

Yes lioncub...those are indeed, some interesting scriptures.

And as you read them...or, as Brother Mike reads them...or as I read them...what can we attribute this too? Who is in control of this stuff? Who is it that is sovereign here? Is the Devil's name even mentioned in this at all? So...who is it that smites? Who causes someone to die, or to be stricken with diseases? Who "stirred up against" people, or groups of people?

Jeez lioncub...you're gonna want me to go back to my "Is God Good" thread...which I thought I've laid to rest, at least for a period of time!! :-)

I have been doing this for a few Years S.I.E

Yes. Very well. But God has been doing it for thousands of years here on Earth, and milleniums prior.

One women that had cancer, I had sat across a table from her, and told her... "You don't have to put up with this." She would agree with me, yet never get serious

Do you see that you were trying to play savior here, to this woman, BM...and that you see her as someone who failed you? You seem to believe that if she took your prescription -- REALLY took it! -- then you believe her life would have turned out differently? You seem to believe that she would even have lived.

How often was Jesus disgrunteled, or frustrated, when people didn't "do as He commanded"? I don't see it.

He offered what He offered freely, and unilaterally. He didn't need to see a response, or expect one.

She lost it all, even the life of her son, and I could do nothing but watch.
Her boy died at 7:00pm exactly when the Lord to me and another Pastor at the same time to command his spirit to him..

Whoah. You believe you can "command his spirit to him"?? Who are you to tell God who He can or can't let into Paradise?

People just assume that their faith was good enough, they assume they knew everything about the Word, That they were expert prayers and if they did not get well, then it can't be anything they did wrong.. So we write a book on how God does not want everyone healed..

ahh yes...there's your real message that you're sending to people BM. Whether you know it or not, see it or not, or like it or not, you're message to people is that they can't do it, or that they're not enough, or that they're not doing it right, because if they really actually could, somehow, ascertain just enough faith, expertise, trust, and belief, they would certainly be healed!

You're making it all about them! You're making their healing contingent on carnal human beings, BM. You're not making it dependent or contingent up on the one who can heal, and has the sovereignty to do anything and everything.

And that is simply damning, BM. It is damning to people, and it is a major discredit to your Savior.

Yes, you're right, it's all about you BM, in your doctrinal belief system. It's all about you. You sound as though you'll beat yourself up...you'll pay your penance, until and unless you finally, somehow get it right!!!

And here's the thing: you're upside down on this. You think you're giving God some sort of respect by not pointing the finger at Him...but by doing that, you're assuming the control is either changed by you or the devil. You're looking to yourself, or your pointing your finger at the devil, and assuming that by doing that you can change only the things that God Himself could.

God doesn't need you to protect Him. Not in this way. And by you doing it this way, you're actually denying Him. Denying His power, His sovereignty, His will for your life and others around you. Denying His love, my brother!

And you do this, because you think certain things are "bad" or "undesirable", so you consider them evil of the devil. Things like cancer / death / etc etc.

But they aren't! They are a natural part of life. They are part of God's design!

Now...when it comes to addictions, or outright sin, etc., then yes, repentence is needed on the part of a human, and they have to make that move. But when it comes to many of the examples you cited above, you simply are denying God my brother!

If you believe that all "YOU" have done was enough, and there is nothing else to learn.... then there is nothing more to do...

Ah yes. You're right. And it's beautiful. And I don't do it well at all. Or very often...

But, yes...surrender. Sweet surrender. A giving up, or sorts. Not out of laziness...but out of exhaustion. And then a surrender.

Into His arms, right? I mean, upon exhaustion...where else to fall?

Yes Brother Mike --- you have done enough. You have nothing more to do.

Because He has done it. For you. With finality. And yes, you can rest in that. There is nothing more for you to do. There is nothing more you need to tell people to do. Except surrender. Into His arms.

Yes. That's it.

Matthew 11:30 "For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Was it actually God who did these things?
Or does God,like a good Father take the blame for his children.

Acts 7:30 "After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.

The old testament said God was in the bush.
The New testament says it was an angel that gave the law.

Jesus set straight a lot of misconceptions about God's nature.

John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

John 10:10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The law is that thief, that's why a better covenant was needed.
The law says "don't" and Jesus said "do.
The law can not make you love but love is fulfillment of the law.

Jesus tells us that bad things happen to both the righteous and
unrighteous.

Luke 13:14 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem.

There are too many variables that are unclear to blame anyone or anything for sickness or the inability to prevent it or cast it out.

God's ways are higher than our ways,we are simply to rejoice in the love and fellowship and walk in the finished work.

Was it actually God who did these things?
Or does God,like a good Father take the blame for his children.

God's ways are higher than our ways,we are simply to rejoice in the love and fellowship and walk in the finished work.

great point.

And the answer is, I don't know! And the other answer is, I would like to be more O.K. with that!

We live in mystery. We live shrouded, as we only see one side. I know less and less the older I get. And the older I get, the more suspect I become of those who claim they know the answers or formulas to unwind what can only lie in mystery. :-)
