As of today, there is no true understanding of how the direct article is used in Greek (Daniel Wallace, I don't have the citation readily at hand). Even now in English, American say "THE hospital" while the British omit the article to say just "hospital" (e.g. I'm going to hospital).

And the KJV is a purposeful mistranslation. The word "IS" is not in that text, and what you read as a verb is actually an adjective. Furthermore verse 16 is a continuation of a sentence starting in verse 15. There are just so many problems with this translation. At some point I shall have to post a new thread that provides a correct translation, but again, this mistake sorely detracts from the credibility of the author of your article.
