Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The LORD rescues them when they are in trouble. Psalm 41:1
Being at the bottom looking up is no fun, but it can be the start of a climb. Delving down among the downcast seems hard, but it’s an opportunity for a rescue mission.
Resolve to take what you know about endurance and help someone else endure. Don’t step on others when they’re down—help them up whenever you can. You might be thinking this only applies to places like soup kitchens and homeless shelters. While those can be on your list, you might have a friend, neighbor, or family member who could use a friend as they move through their own unique difficulty.
Helping others is all about showing the same love God’s shown you. It’s not judgmental, but it doesn’t mean you deny sin and its impact. The greatest help you can offer is by inviting God to come with you—letting the words from His book come from your mouth. Let His grace, love, and mercy be evident in how you respond to the struggler. As odd as it may sound, you can reduce the intensity of your own struggle by helping someone else through theirs.
Prayer: Lord, may my actions be a mirror that introduces Your love to the downcast. My story includes endurance, and everyone I can help has a similar story. Everyone struggles. With Your help, let me help.
