They made war with the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab. And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who [were] with them, for they cried out to God in the battle. He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in Him. 1 Chronicles 5:19-20 NKJV

As the Reubenites, Gadites, and half tribe of Manasseh waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab, they cried out to God and He answered them because they trusted in Him. They ended up defeating their enemies and seizing all their livestock “because the battle was God’s” (1 Chronicles 5:22), and they occupied the land until the exile. They were unwavering in their faith, and the Lord delivered them.

Prayers of desperation are often likened to a “Hail Mary” pass in football. But the comparison falls far short. When a team lofts a pass toward the end zone, usually as time expires, the coaches and players are really just hoping beyond hope that one of their receivers will come down with the ball and score the winning touchdown. Conversely, when prayers of desperation are offered in faith, believers aren’t leaving the situation to chance. God hears His people and He answers them.

What are you praying for right now? Don’t give up!

Prayer: Lord God, just as You heard the prayers of the Reubenites, Gadites, and Manasseh, bear mine today. Give me the unwavering faith they had to stand strong as I await an answer.
