Dear Family, Friends, and Neighbors (Everyone else),

There is something that is heavy on my heart which I need to share with all of you, which you are also free to share with anyone else. There are a lot of conversations on the internet, on various sites, which talk about the gospel of our salvation. And what I am hearing from so many people is a general consensus that someone can make a verbal confession of faith in Jesus Christ, or a confession of belief in what Jesus did in dying for our sins, and this would guarantee the person entry into heaven, no works required.

If this is what you believe, then I must respectfully disagree with that on biblical grounds, which I know I have mentioned before in my other internet posts. For the Scriptures do not teach a salvation from sin and the hope of eternal life with God based on a profession of faith in Jesus Christ only, no works required. For one day we are all going to stand before God on the day of judgment, and we will be judged by God according to our works, not according to our lip service (Matthew 7:21-23; Romans 2:5-10).

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

And we learn in 1 John 1-3 that if we claim that we have fellowship with God, but yet we walk in darkness (sin), we are liars. If we claim that we know God, but we do not obey his commandments, in practice, we are liars. For it is not the one who claims he is “in Christ” who is “in Christ,” but it is the one who has denied self, died with Christ to sin, and who is now walking in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in practice, and no longer in sin. They have the hope and the promise of eternal life with God in heaven.

And I am sharing this with you because I am concerned that if the gospel message I believe I am hearing from many of you is what you are teaching others as the gospel, that you could be held responsible by God for giving people a false hope of salvation from sin and of eternal life with God based on a lie. Thus, not based on the truth of what Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught, if read and understood in the correct context in which they said what they did. For many lies are being taught from Scriptures taught out of context and twisted to make them say what they do not say, in truth.

So, please prayerfully consider what I just shared with you, and please read these Scriptures prayerfully, asking the Lord to lead you to all truth. And please know that I must speak the truth of what these Scriptures teach, even if I am hated and rejected and persecuted, in return, because human lives depend upon hearing and believing the truth of what Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught, in their fulness, in the correct biblical context. And please know that I am saying this because I love you all dearly, and my heart’s desire is that all of you come to know Jesus Christ, but in truth!!

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10]

what I am hearing from so many people is a general consensus that someone can make a verbal confession of faith in Jesus Christ, or a confession of belief in what Jesus did in dying for our sins, and this would guarantee the person entry into heaven, no works required.

I agree with just about everything you say here. This is what I call "partial Bible" doctrine. Some people takes one or two verses and build an entire theology and doctrine on it. They ignore all the other scriptures about works and obedience.. (i.e. "that doesn't apply to me" anymore).
and try to boil salvation down to the barest minimum they can get away with.

There are varying degrees of this... but for the most part anyone who believes in OSAS (One saved, always saved) has to believe this.
From their perspective... if I have any part to play in salvation.. then it's possible I could mess up. If any part of salvation depends on me.. then it's no longer totally in Jesus's hands. That is a frightening prospect, because it means it's partially up to me.

On the other side.. (my personal point of view) it's even more frightening that people are being told, all you have to do is believe in Jesus and he will take care of the rest. Just about everyone in the Bible either believes in Jesus (or used to believe in Jesus) (obviously Jesis wasn't known by that name in the old Testament).

I personally divide our walk into three parts...
1. the initial "getting saved". It's true saved by grace and faith alone. I agree there's nothing else we can do to be save.
2. the "after" I am saved... now I have to have some works, and try to be obedient (I don't have to be 100% successful).
3. This is the hardest one to articulate well... and really by the time this happens, the life journey is over...
There is a perspective... that Jesus will never leave or forske you, no one can pluck you out of His hand, and He the 99 to go fetch you out of trouble... I agree with all those passages of scripture... however this is where I interpret them differently than some others...

God was with the Jews for 40 years wandering through the desert. He didn't lose any of them... but at the end of the journey some were not allowed to enter the promised land (the place of rest) because of disobedience. Some people have the idea.. that they are "safe" with Jesus.. but I find it's at the end of their life.. Jesus separates the sheep from the goats, Jesus shuts the door on 5 foolish virgins, Jesus tells two of His servants "well done, good and faithful..", but He calls the 3rd one wicked and lazy and has him thrown out. At the end of the age, Jesus will have all the stumblng blocks removed "out of" the kingdom of heaven.

So yes.. Jesus is always with us. Yes He never leaves us... Yes, no one can take us from Him... But none of that guarantees salvation.
It's those who persevere and overcome "until the end" that make it.

The Bible says no one can call Jesus "Lord" except the by the Holy Spirit..
The Bible also says.. not everyone who calls me "Lord" (would they call Him Lord if they didn't believe He was Lord?)
will enter the kingdom of heaven. He will tell some of them.. depart from me you "workers of lawlessness (sin)..

The Bible says we must "all" stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Not just those who never believed in Him.
This isn't just for good works... it's also for the bad things we have done. And we will be "rewarded" based on the things
we;ve done.. not by what we say we believe (lip service is cheap) both good... and bad.

The Bible says some names can and will be erased from the book of life. The Bible says some people will turn the grace of Christ into a license to sin. (how could you have the grace of Christ.. if you haven't received Christ?)

How you lived before you met Jesus... is gone and forgiven.. but how you lived after you met Jesus affects where you will spend eternity.
Those who did the good deeds will be resurrected to life.. those who did the evil deeds will be resurrected to judgment...
No matter what they say they believe.

Some people honor Jesus with their lips.. but their hearts are far from Him.
Some people are holding onto a form of godliness.. but they are denying the Master by their deeds.

Jesus tells (some of) the seven churches in Asia... I know you used to love me.. I know you used to do good deeds...
I know you weren't always lukewarm..Go back to doing the things you used to do.. or else!!
