Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

The Bible is clear; you are to bear with other people who struggle with sin (Galatians 6:2). It requires patience, sacrifice, and love. At some point you’ve likely received the kindness of strangers and friends. Bearing with others helps you maintain positive relationships. Remember, God puts up with you, too.

When you sin by disobeying God’s commands, you aren’t supposed to give yourself a free pass. Grace is God’s gift and your example. You’re not to bear (put up) with your own sin. God wants you to deal with it, and His example is ruthless (see Matthew 5:29-30). There are sins that catch the attention of law enforcement like murder and theft, but there are other sins that are equally offensive to God. A short list of these sins includes gossip, envy, and dishonesty.

The only way you can really deal with sin is with help. Men show the greatest wisdom when they allow God’s Holy Spirit to create a new heart and a steadfast spirit in a heart born sinful (Psalm 51:5, 10).

God does what you can’t, He helps when you ask for help. You can’t defeat sin on your own. Wise men understand the best answer to the problem of sin is new life offered by a good God and accepted by those who are fallen (See Colossians 3).
