But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God." Psalm 50:23

In 1789, George Washington, the first president of the United states, proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving, and that day was celebrated on and off until 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens,” Which would be celebrated on the last Thursday in November.

In 1941, both houses of Congress unanimously passed a joint resolution establishing the national day of thanks, and, after some changes in the bill, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the resolution making Thanksgiving Day a federal holiday.

Since then, gathering with friends and family to celebrate a day of giving thanks—and to enjoy a huge feast—has become a well-established tradition in America.

It’s great to have a day set aside to gather with your loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, and it’s even better when you take a break from your festivities to offer words of thanks and praise to the one who has blessed you with every good thing you have.

But make sure you don’t forget to offer your expressions of gratitude to your God every day. When you give Him thanks from your heart, you draw closer to Him, honor Him, and move Him to bless you all the more.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Colossians 3:14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
