Amateur Christians
READ: 1 Corinthians 1:18-31

The love of Christ compels us. —2 Corinthians 5:14

The word amateur has been redefined over the years and has lost the luster of its original meaning. The English word comes from the Latin word amore, which means “to love.” An amateur is someone who does something simply for the love of it.

In today’s way of thinking, receiving payment moves you into a “higher” category—that of a professional. The reasoning is that if someone is willing to pay for your service, you must be really good. An amateur, therefore, is considered to have less skill or talent.

As I read my Bible, however, I see a different hierarchy of values. During the time of Jesus, the religious professionals were using their position to gain power and prestige for themselves, not to serve the people. Jesus didn’t choose those who were wise, mighty, or noble by human standards (1 Cor. 1:26). He sought those willing to follow Him and be trained for loving service.

In today’s world, the scene is much the same. God is still looking for “amateurs,” those who will serve the Lord for the sheer love of it. Compelled by our love for Jesus, may we, like the disciples and apostles before us, proclaim the love of God for the world by following Christ’s example of loving and serving others.

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow:
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now. —Featherstone

One proof of our love for God is our love for our neighbor.

Excellent post Shortlady, and getting back to basic experience.

Jesus said to Peter "You denied me three times, I have three questions for you

Question 1 "Do you love me"
" 2 "Do you love me"
" 3 "Do you love me" "LOrd thou knowest all things you know that I love you" Peter replied.

Yes love is the reason, the motive, the dunamis

"We love Him" said John "because He first love us"

The first of all first's "He loved us"

It was a lonely path he trod
From every human soul apart
Known only to himself and God
Was all the grief that filled his heart
Yet from the track he turned not back
Till where I lay in sin and shame
He found me, Blessed be his Name

When I say the word LOVE, is it the same as saying JESUS?

What do you think?

I would say 'No' it is not the same.

Call Him Jesus.

And when you call Him Jesus, you call Him by His Name. Which is a mighty Name able to break any bondage, of depression, or fear, and such like.

I live in Yorkshire. Here the word love is used as an expression of endearment in everyday converse. Not man with man, but an expression of regard to a lady... At my age I can use it, and I do. Thinking about it I use it on these boards......to some. No one has taken offense yet.

"He shall be called Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sin" It is a saving Name.

Call it out regularly, as you go about your business and daily life. He is a ready help to all of us. It is the Name of the Saviour

God Bless You

ONE. I love the Lord. To me I think he embodied LOVE..He made it Flesh..everything HE did..showed me what LOVE was..so when I say His Name..JESUS..in my mind I am also saying LOVE. For God so loved the world...

So when I say Joshua, am I also saying JESUS?

I thank you guys for your thoughts.
