That heaven and earth are there is plain from verse one; it is what God spoke into the space/mater/time existence. Heavens are separated and named on day second, and earth is made to appear and named on day third. Is it not too hard to see, that: it is in the later days that their day one masses are simply more structurally organized to remedy their incompleteness noted in verse 2? At earth time 96 hours day fifth begins. At the end of day 5 (earth time 120 hours), we have all the swimming and flying kinds sent out into their primed environments to move and fly, fill and multiply. God spent a daylight portion of that work day, or up to 24 hours, if he worked around the clock, to get that job done. That is as long as the statements will allow. The God of truth is not playing games. Mankind needs to know this.
Death is not mentioned for it does not exist yet; chapter 3 brings it in, because it entered into the creation by occasion of man's sin and God's curse. Actually, food is not mentioned yet either; the next day it is. But just as with earth and heaven being present in day one, the food plan is there in day 5 and only confirmed in day 6 where it says: "30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so." I think this is what is meant by "I have given...and it was so" (past tense). Eating plants is not death in the cursed sense, for they are food. Nephish creatures are in a separate category from plants.
