The LORD has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, "Don't call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don't live in dread of what frightens them. Make the LORD of Heaven's Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. Isaiah 8:11-13 NLT
Conspiracies are nothing new. Their power to consume time and energy is ancient. The Lord warned Isaiah not to become consumed by the newsworthy kinds of events surrounding him but instead to focus on Him.
Sometimes the negativity and suspicion encouraged by media organizations create the same kind of time-consuming and fear-inducing fervor today. It’s easy to give in to fear, to become consumed by human ideas and events that seem so commanding—even when freedom and joy are waiting in the more powerful presence of God.
Paul struggled with the prevailing opinions and political pressures of his day as well, but he reminded the people of God that he and other disciples “depended on God’s grace, not on our own human wisdom” (2 Corinthians 1:12). He had learned like David to replace panic and paranoia with trust: “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you” (Psalm 143:8). You can too!
Prayer: Father, help me avoid “thinking like everyone else does” so that I might experience peace in the presence of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
