COMING TO THE LORD IN SADNESS
by David Wilkerson | March 27, 2012

The Holy Spirit directed me to the book of Nehemiah and as I read chapter 2, I saw something I had not seen before. This chapter contains an encouraging story for all who come to the Lord with a heavy heart.

Nehemiah was a cupbearer to King Artaxerxes. He tasted the wines before they were brought to the king's table to make sure they weren't poisoned. Over time, Nehemiah became a trusted servant to the king.

Nehemiah received a report from his brother that Jerusalem was in ruins. The population had been decimated, the people were in terrible straits, and conditions were worsening daily. This tore at Nehemiah's heart. He loved Judah and Jerusalem and a sorrow began to grip him.

Scripture says: "And it came to pass . . . I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence. Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid" (Nehemiah 2:1-2).

Understand that people were forbidden to come into the king's presence with sadness, especially if they were court employees. Nehemiah knew that having a gloomy countenance could cost him his head and he was terribly fearful.

When the king saw Nehemiah’s grief, he was moved with compassion. Scripture tells us he gave his downcast servant a leave of absence. He also gave him a letter of credit, opening the royal treasury to him. And then Nehemiah received from the king the desire of his heart—permission to go to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and the city walls!

Here is my point: If Nehemiah could go into the presence of a pagan king with a sad countenance and yet find favor and blessings beyond imagination, how much more will King Jesus show compassion to each of us, His children, in our sadness. He is eager to lift our burden and supply our needs.

Being Sad.

Here is my point: If Nehemiah could go into the presence of a pagan king with a sad countenance and yet find favor and blessings beyond imagination, how much more will King Jesus show compassion to each of us, His children, in our sadness. He is eager to lift our burden and supply our needs.

When I stay full of the Word, My prayer time with God, and do what I am suppose to be doing, I never find the "SAD" option come up.

Luk 18:7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Luk 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Crying because of Natural circumstances means you have not received your answer from God, and it's not faith.

Faith is full of Joy, not sadness. The Just shall live by faith.

Even when told my son would not live until the next morning, I did not shed a tear. God has never failed anyone that will believe him, never has forsaken anyone.

To be sad about something, you must believe the whole situation is going to end up in a Mess. You can't believe God might help, or it might be a disaster.

Jas 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Jas 1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Jas 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Sadness, worry, fear is not faith. We are told not to let anyone delude themselves into thinking that God is going to help them in this condition.

New Testament believes have free access to God, free access to the Power of the Holy Spirit, we have so much more than what Nehemiah had to work with. We have Jesus and his name!!!!

God is full of Mercy, and does at times get involved despite ourselves. Look at Hannah, she was miserable, sad and depressive year after year, even making her Husband feel as if he was not doing enough.

Yet, God still fulfilled his plan with her and she gave birth to one of the greatest prophets in the bible. Timing in that was crucial though, which Hannah never considered past her own misery.

King David................

David had his issues, but bless God here is our example.

David faced Goliath, Nobody had beaten this Goliath, but David Said The Lord

1Sa 17:36
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
1Sa 17:37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

No sadness there, just a mighty man that knows God and his Covenant with God.

I will say of the Lord he is my refuge in my God I will trust!!!!

Look at what David said all the time, David knew that thousands could fall all around him, but he was always walking away from it. That is how we should be.

We are human.

1Sa 30:4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.

Oh no!!! Where is my mighty man David? Crying like child as if there is no God.

I don't care how much faith you think you have, we can all be right where David is at now. The enemy came to Ziklag and took the women, then burned it.

Not a good situation to come home to, and certainly being human it would effect anyone. It was a surprise, and a tremendous Blow.

Here is my point.

I myself have let things go, and spiritually became weak without knowing it. Something come up, and I found I had little confidence in God getting it fixed. It's a bad place to be, but now I am holding on to the Holy Spirit as my comforter, I need that comfort at this time, I need to be encouraged.

Jas 5:17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

Even Jairus, Jesus did not let be sad, or stay sad. Fear not, believe only!!!! Jesus threw all out of that house that were full of unbelief.

Mat 8:25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
Mat 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

We may get down, depressed, and sad. I certainly do not want to go to God in that condition.

David was sad, he wept........... David did something else though.....

1Sa 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

Despite all that was Going on, Despite how horrible and hopeless the situation seemed, David decided to encourage himself in the Lord his God. David did not choose to stay sad.

It was then David was able to Hear from the Lord on what to do.

Just like David, we should reject sadness, and encourage ourselves in God. In a sad state we may, may not get help from the Lord. Without faith we can't even Please God.

A joyful, encouraged state though, has confidence, and faith in God. That never fails, Never. The Joy of the Lord is our strength, Sadness destroys that.

Pro 15:13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

Jesus Is Lord.

You know how we feel closer to those who we can relate to, because of some shared experiences or interests? Well read this..

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted" (Psalm 34)

The world discards things that are broken...quite the opposite in the kingdom of God...

I think Christ looks at the broken hearted...and says now there is a man or woman who is going to get me...and He draws a little closer.

Christ has such compassion, such empathy, such desire, such love for us in all our sorrows...He looks at us and says "Come.."

"Jesus said, Come to the waters, stand by my side, I know you are thirsty, you wont be denied, I felt every tear drop, when in darkness you cried, and I`m here to remind you, that for those tears I died"
( a song that is very special to me)

"The only way to keep a broken vessel full is to keep it under the tap"

Today...listen for His voice...

Bless you Brother

Very true, I was just reading this morning that even a leaky vessel full of holes can still over flow. Hallelujah! God is so good! God promised through Joel that He would pour out His Spirit on everyone.

Its a hallelujah thought for sure, seeing as how that is a pretty apt description of me!

Hallelujah!
