I know I'm rather new to JT but my experience is usually listed in areas that deal directly with women. I just received a notice that they are planning to close a shelter here that houses abused women. It is the only one in my county and is always full; this place needs to be kept open. If they remove it, the only other shelter is in another county and sometimes due to court orders, these women can't leave. Also, with no money and with a cut back in support they have no way of getting there.
One of the biggest problems is sheltering women from mates that are searching for them. Normal shelters, for example, homeless shelters, are not set-up with an abuse perspective. They are not equipped to protect these women. This facility, Safe Quest even helps them to go to court, gain custody of their children and eventually, live on their own SAFELY.
Please pray that the Lord will keep this shelter open or provide another route to protect these women. Sexual abuse among women can be measured by: if there are five women standing in a room, two or three of the five women have been sexually abused. This is of course, in the States and just a general measure. I learned these statistics during training.
