"But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you. Luke 11:41 NKJV
Jesus was invited to the home of a Pharisee for dinner. This Jewish religious leader was surprised that Jesus didn’t wash before sitting down for the meal. But Jesus knew what He was doing. He pronounced a handful of “woes” as He explained to the man that his focus was n the wrong things and on the wrong place. Jesus told him that it doesn’t matter how clean the outside looks. The inside is what matters.
It was the same all the way back in the Garden of Eden, when the devil tempted Adam and Eve with the things they could see. On the outside, what was wrong with eating a little fruit? ON the inside, the first couple would deliberately disobey their Creator and open the door for sin to contaminate their hearts.
Jesus told the Pharisee to be generous to the poor. To live an unselfish life. To live more like Jesus did and less like he had been living.
Think about the ways your life has changed since Jesus “washed” you. Having your heart washed clean opened your eyes to see more of God’s blessings—and to see how you can bless others.
Prayer: Lord, I need to confess that I’m often just worried about me. Please clean up what’s on the inside. I know that when You do that, I’ll be changed—changed in my thinking and in the way I treat others.
