Character and Anointing
Character and Anointing. “…he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith” (Acts 11:24). Apostle Barnabbas had a testimony that he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit. It is vitally important to have both Character and the Anointing of the Holy Spirit. You may be a man full of the Holy Spirit and Faith but are you a Good man? You may be a good man but do you have the union of the Holy Spirit on your life?
The Anointing does not carry Character but Character is the vessel that carries the Anointing. Are there holes or cracks on the cup of your Character? The scripture clearly says that we cannot pour New Wine into old wineskins. Because the new wine will cause the wineskins to crack. The new wineskin shows character. The new wineskin is the dried up skin of a freshly dead animal. Is there fresh death in your life? Have you visited the Altar recently? Have you died to that pride and selfishness lately? Romans 12:1 says “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship”. Fresh death is vitally important in carrying the fresh wine of the Holy Spirit.
Are you a good man? A man of character? Do you love your wife and children? Are you loving towards your other brothers in the Body of Christ? Are the fruit of the Spirit evident in your life? It’s not enough to preach fiery sermons and lead thousands to Jesus. You have to be a good father, a good husband, a good brother, a good son, a good servant hearted minister, a good employee?
Samson had the anointing but lacked character and that led to his eventual downfall. So many great men have fallen to similar traps even in our generation.
May we have a testimony like Barnabbas that we are good and full of the Holy Spirit?
