Change The Way You Think About Pornography

This may sound unbelievable, but I know how to completely change the way you think about porn. To turn it upside-down.

And this change? Will change everything for you.

You can have a freedom you can feel. You won’t be at war with yourself anymore—instead, you’ll be healthy emotionally, spiritually, and sexually.

It’s true. I’ve seen it happen with other people, and I believe it can happen for you.

It happened for my friend Seth Taylor. He was tired of fighting temptation within himself all the time—so tired that it pushed him to the very edge of himself, to a point where he had to make a choice.

He chose a revolutionary path—a sacred journey toward freedom—and it changed everything for him. I heard about Seth’s journey, I read some of his story, and I thought, “We have to get this out so others can hear about this, too.

This is so true! Too many people struggle with pornography addiction. They have been told they can't help it. It is a sickness. They will never be free. Those are all lies! And, so they pat them on the back and tell them it's ok. They tell them just to focus on who they are in Christ, all the while they are staring at sexual images on a screen or in a magazine. They pull Romans 7 out of context and try to convince themselves that Paul struggled, too, but they forget what he said in Romans 6 and 8. They don't call it sin. They don't call it lust, lasciviousness, and/or adultery. Instead they call it entertainment or an escape from the stresses of life. They rationalize it away, and excuse it because, after all, now they are under grace, so it is all forgiven. They forget that God's grace freed us from slavery to sin, and it teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives while we wait for Christ's return. They forget that our salvation means being crucified with Christ in death to sin and being resurrected with Christ in newness of life, living to righteousness, for this is why he died, to free us! They also forget that this battle has already been won for us at the cross. We are given the armor of God and the power of the Spirit within us to fight off these evil attacks against our minds and hearts, as we claim the victory that is already ours in Christ Jesus, our Lord. We have only ourselves to blame if we get trapped in pornography addiction and we don't take the way of escape that Jesus provided for us on the cross.

Guys I don't get this. Call me daft but Ive been battling porn on and off for years and I don't see freedom from it as a once off evenf. I see it as a battle to be fought out on a regular basis just like alcoholism.

@louis - First off, when we are born into this world we are born with sin natures, without God, without hope, and destined for eternal punishment in hell. Even if we are raised in families that claim to know Christ, we are still separated from Christ. We have all sinned, and we all come up short of being worthy of God, or of having his divine approval. This is why Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, so that we could be made right with God via his blood which was shed for us on the cross.

When we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and as Savior of our lives, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin, and we are resurrected with Christ to newness of life, "created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness" (See Romans 6 and Ephesians 4:17-24). Jesus died, not just so we could escape hell and have the promise of heaven when we die. He died that we might die to sin and live to righteousness, all in the power and working of the Spirit within us as we yield control of our lives over to God by faith.

When we trust in Jesus to be our Lord (master) and Savior, he indwells us with his Holy Spirit, who convicts, corrects, instructs, teaches, leads, guides, comforts, encourages, strengthens and empowers us to live godly lives while we still live on this earth. We cannot overcome sinful habits on our own, but only in the power and working of God's Spirit within us, as we cooperate with his work of grace in our lives. Remember that God's grace is not just so we escape hell and go to heaven when we die. God's grace, which brings salvation, teaches us to say "NO" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives while we wait for Christ's return.

So, if we are going to overcome sinful habits, we have to have this foundation first. We have to have been crucified with Christ in death to sin, and resurrected with Christ in newness of life. In other words, we must be born again; born of the Spirit of God, from above. It is a lot like metamorphosis, i.e. the process which takes place when a caterpillar is changed into a butterfly. We must repent of (turn from) our sins, and turn to follow Jesus Christ with our lives, and choose to make him our Lord, and to give him control over our lives. So, if you haven't done this yet, this is where you need to begin.

Next, you need to follow Jesus’ instructions. He said that if there is something which is leading you into sin, you need to cut it out of your life. We read in Hebrews 12:1: “… let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Many people struggle with giving in to particular sins because they are not ready to do what needs to be done to cut it out of their lives. So, they tempt fate, so to speak.

For instance, if someone struggles with lust, but they watch TV shows and movies with even a hint of sensuality, they are feeding that sin in their minds. If they watch TV shows and movies with extra-marital affairs, or with sexual situations between people who are not married to each other, or even with light flirtations in them, they are feeding that sin in their minds. It is difficult, even, to go to any internet site these days which does not have some half-naked person off to the side or down at the bottom of the screen. Social media sites and news sites are particularly bad for this. We have to practice the Word of God in this in setting our minds on things above, not on things of this earth, and practice thinking about what is good, lovely, pure, etc. but we can only do this if we are guarding our hearts and minds against what is evil, and if we are taking into our minds what is pure and holy.

So, you have to get radical about sin. Do you have a smart phone, tablet (I-Pad) and/or a personal computer? Then, you have private internet access. Private internet access has been the downfall of many people because, for one, you can get just about everything on the internet, and two, you can do it in the privacy of your own home or car without anyone knowing, and that is dangerous. Jesus said it is better to cut out an eye than for our whole body to burn in hell. It is better to get rid of these things which may be leading us into sin if they are our downfall. Computers and smart phones, in themselves, are not sinful, but what we do with them may be, though. If we play with fire, we will get burned. We have to be willing to cut out of our lives what is leading us into sin if it comes down to that or continuing in sin. It may not come to that, but if it does, we need to make the tough choices, which are the right choices, to get these things out of our lives for good.

Then, we need to be filling our minds with the things of God – with the Word of God, in prayer, and with music lyrics which honor and glorify God, etc. And, we need to be obeying the Lord and his Word, and do what he has called us to do. If you are married, you need to pursue your spouse like you did, perhaps, when you were dating. Focus your mind and attention on her, but look to the Lord to meet the needs of your heart. Put off lust, and put on love. Put off pornography, and put on love and what is pure, righteous and holy. Daily put on the armor of God with which to fight off Satan’s temptations. Say “NO” to sin. Resist the devil, and flee temptation. Too many people are playing with temptation and are not fleeing (running away), and that is why they are still struggling.

Lastly, many people are in this sin, not sin, sin, not sin, vicious cycle of on again, off again with sinful habits because they don’t truly understand or don’t really believe what Jesus did for us on the cross. When he died and was resurrected, he put sin to death, and he defeated Satan. We don’t ever have to give in to any willful sin. We can say “No” in the power of what Jesus did for us on the cross. It is not a question of who is going to win this battle, because Jesus already won. Satan is already defeated. He’s just not been removed yet. We already have all we need in Christ to stand strong against sin, to resist Satan, to flee temptation, and to draw near to God. We just have to exercise what we already have.

Sincerely, Sue J Love

Hello. Friendly atheist here. I won't chisel into this conversation any further (uninvited) than to say that I am here and I have a very different view on porn (on sexual mores in general) and I'd be happy to discuss them. Not to denounce anything anyone here holds dear, nor to intentionally offend anyone. BUT, if you are interested in hearing the other side of this coin, happy to chat about it here or in a separate sidebar.

Hello, Louis

Thanks for sharing and your honesty. Personally speaking from experience it definitely is a journey. Sue J Love said it most accurately when she quoted scripture(Matthew 18:9) about "And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell."

For me I had to get to the point where I truly hated it. When I saw that every time I watched it seemed like spiritually my wife would come under attack it really grieved my soul. When I saw that I was supporting an industry that is responsible for the exploitation and abuse of girls and woman all over the world, I had to step back and hate the person I was.

When I thought about how I was growing to love Jesus and how these were the sins that nailed Him to the cross, I got to the point where I didn't want to put any more sins on Him(knowing the Crucifixion already happened) to suffer for on my behalf.

When I got to the point where I started to notice that I was serving the devil by doing it because when I was looking at it, I was missing out on doing God's WILL, and I noticed that if I didn't do it, I came upon such great opportunities to serve and show love to people( all which I would have missed if I was watching porn).

I'm not sure where you are but the first step for me(after God opened my eyes of course) was to really see how evil porn was. I had to really hate it with a passion, that enabled me to want to resist with all I had(Obviously the power comes from the Holy Spirit).

Step two was pretty much what Sue talked about, removing all the traps. It even got to the point where I was fasting from TV, the internet, and being mindful of not staring at females for too long. All those were things that would trigger for me an urge to watch.

Thirdly the LORD showed me that my desire for porn was actually a result of the loneliness of my soul. I noticed that the urge always came hardest when I was alone. To combat it I discovered as strange as it may sound that just talking to a friend on the phone, or playing an activity with others, or studying the Bible filled the thirst in my soul and quenched was satisfying just as if I was watching porn.

Porn rewires our brains and we can be freed in our souls and truly given the choice and not forced to be a slave to sin. For me I had to reprogram the flesh by staying away from things that would tempt me. I even to a hammer to my PlayStation one day because I found myself going online and being tempted to look at inappropriate things.

I won't lie and say I feel 100% delivered but I feel a lot stronger against it and I know where the traps are, whereas before I didn't know where the traps were. At the peak of my sin I was watching porn like 3 times a week, more or less. Now it's like I may backslide 3 times in a full year( not something that is ok, as I will be 100% free).

I know God is able, and will draw me closer to Him each day.

Thanks for your prayers. Ill pray for you as well.
