Many sacrifices were offered on that joyous day, for God had given the people cause for great joy. The women and children also participated in the celebration, and the joy of the people of Jerusalem could be heard far away. Nehemiah 12:43 NLT
Graduation days are meant to be celebrated. Weddings are happy occasions to join in a joyful union. But these celebration-worthy events can disrupt plans you had already made. You could have finished a home-improvement project, tackled some extra work, or enjoyed time on a lake. You set aside the daily to experience the rare and remembered.
This was what it was like when the Jerusalem wall was dedicated. People came from all over the region. Some relocated to live in the city. The streets were filled with people instead of debris. Impromptu choirs were heard throughout the city and the people were thinking about the miracle that had come to town.
This public works project was taken care of by people who didn’t seem qualified or fully equipped to manage a project many opposed. But on this day, they celebrated something that could only happen when God steps into the circumstances of man and makes the impossible actual.
He does the same for you. And because God answers prayers, raise your voice in praise and make people aware of His good work. Celebrate!
Prayer: Father, You are good—better than my best moments. You’re willing to guide me when I’ve lost my way. Make my praise a celebration.
