So David sent and inquired about the woman. And [someone] said, "[Is] this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" 2 Samuel 11:3 NKJV

A man who walks his own way, outside the will of God, tends to start breaking the Ten Commandments one after the other. Consider the infamous story of King David breaking each of the last five of the Ten Commandments in his affair with Bathsheba.

First, “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13): David had one of his most loyal men, Uriah the Hittite, cut down and killed in an evil plot (2 Samuel 11:15).

Second, “Thou shalt not steal” (Exodus 20:15): again, David took Bathsheba away from her husband.

Fourth, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” (Exodus 20:16): David tried to pin Bathsheba’s pregnancy on Uriah (2 Samuel 11:8) and then tried to pin Uriah’s death on random chance or God’s will (2 Samuel11:21).

Fifth, “Thou shalt not covert they neighbour’s wife” (Exodus 20:17): David’s coveting got this terrible bundle of sins rolling (2 Samuel 11:2).

Prayer: Unflinching God, what King David did was reprehensible. Yet I’m made of flesh too. Keep me walking inside Your will, not mine.
