So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don't need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. Hebrews 6:1

You don’t expect a high school senior to act like a preschooler. Good fathers work to help their children grow up, demonstrate what age-appropriate behavior looks like, and help that child understand that adult maturity is the logical end result.

In the years following Jesus’ time on earth there were Christians who were satisfied to remain babies in their faith. There was much to learn but they essentially said. “That’s interesting, but tell us our favorite story again.” Where there was history, psalms, law, and prophecy the people could have learned, they only wanted to hear their introduction to the faith over and over.

Christians can be guilty of the same thing today. Perhaps the struggle is that the more you know, the more responsibility you have for acting on that knowledge. The apostle Paul recalled his own struggle with this issue in 1 Corinthians 3:2, writing, “I had to fee you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready.”

God might need to nudge the complacent so they realize that growing up into a solid faith is a vital next step for every Christ follower.
