Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:1 KJV

If this book were a vaccination offered to provide protection against fear and indecision, then consider this New Year’s Eve thought a booster shot.

Today’s verse points direct to John the Baptist, who would be sent to prepare the way for the coming of Jesus. John would proclaim the arrival of Jesus, and this servant’s life would be marked by hardship and persecution. Yet John would live unshaken.

How did he do that? The answer might be that he discovered his purpose and used it to give him energy to live beyond the trouble he encountered. Unshaken people understand that God has a good plan and wants to give opportunities to those who are ready for fresh adventure in the new year. Is that you?

Prayer: Father, there’s living and dying. You’re there for all the in between and beyond. John knew that You’re not fragile. He knew You would rescue. He knew his job was to make Jesus known. Give me the heart of the unshaken. It takes a purpose that’s bigger than my own. May I be willing to let You work in me.
