Then the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when [people] arose early in the morning, there were the corpses--all dead. Isaiah 37:36 NKJV

Hezekiah, the godly king of Judah, knew his kingdom was in deep, deep trouble. Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, had invaded Judah and captured forty-six of its fortified cities (Isaiah 36:1). Now, the Assyrians had their eyes on Jerusalem. Hezekiah sent gifts of silver and gold, hoping, that would bring peace between Judah and Assyria (2 Kings 18:13-16). But when that didn’t work, Hezekiah did all he had left to do: pray (Isaiah 37:14-20).

The soldiers in Jerusalem wouldn’t have posed much of a threat for the massive Assyrian army. Fortunately for the people of Jerusalem, they didn’t have to be. God had promised King Hezekiah that the Assyrians wouldn’t step foot in Jerusalem or shoot a single arrow into the city, and He kept His promise.

What do you do when you’re faced with a seemingly impossible situation? If you’re like Hezekiah, you turn with your whole heart to the One for whom nothing is impossible. When you do that, you invite your all-powerful, all-living heavenly Father to do the miraculous on your behalf.

Prayer: Father, give me a heart to turn to You in all things. Help me to remember always that You are the God who can do anything for me.
