Bad Company

The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them. - Proverb 12:26

Do you remember Bob Hayes, the man who was named "World's Fastest Human"?

He was a hero of 1964 Olympics, bringing home the Gold Medal in the 100 meter run, and being clocked at incredible 8.5 seconds in the final 110 yards of 400 meter relay run.

After the Olympics, he became an all-pro wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. His college coach said that if there had ever been a kid he wished was his, it was Bob Hayes.

Then, in April 1979 Bob was convicted of selling narcotics to an undercover agent. He received two 5-year prison sentences. He went from the pinnacle of success to prison.

According to Hayes, and those who cared most about him, his downfall was caused by his inability to choose good friends. The people he hung around gave him bad advice and got him into trouble.

As a rule, we usually reflect the thoughts and lifestyles of the people we spend the most time with. Who are you spending time with?

Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." - 1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV

Good story Chad, and a practical truth also. Thinking on this, I could only come up with one who is a consistant source of good character and thats Christ. Hanging around with other christians might be good but it's not the same.

I was reminded of a scripture in Acts.
Acts 4:13
The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men who had had no special training. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

Do we spend enough time with Him?

Still regaurdless our path the choice is ours alone

Thanks Chad

Much of what I write has been considered suspect. hmm, How do the french say it? cest la vie or such is life. Up here we have had many people revered as legends or heroes, like Bob Hayes that went wrong at the height of their life. Everyone that knew them had the same response to the error in their life that lead them astray. It is convenient to excuse bad behaviour, but no one including those that wave their crucifixes while hiding in the dark huddled in a corner and liken themselves to Christ in their faith and belief. Today this is done without thought.

Although many don't agree with me, the Gospel was given to us as a gift from Jesus. A guide on how our life needs to be lived to have life and path to Jesus, through Jesus. Until more of us actually use the Good Book as a guide in life rather than a point of casual conversation, or status symbol we will always have stories like Mr. Hayes' to talk about while we watch a world the won't change. BY CHOICE.

Much of what we are given for choices were covered, truly in black and white. Matthew 25:31-46, Matthew 24:32-35 (this supported in Mark & Luke), Mark 4:26-29, Mark 7:14-23 (conversely is also true). I could do this for all the books in the Gospel so I will leave it there.

May you all be blessed in all that you do, your brother in Christ.
