When the church at Jerusalem heard what had happened, they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw this evidence of God's blessing, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord. Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord. Acts 11:22-24 NLT
Barnabas was known as the “Son of Encouragement.” The three verses above provide a clear reason why. He could read a room. He used his intellect, emotions, and the Spirit God gave him to do what he could to honor Jesus and encourage others to do the same.
This man was Paul’s ministry partner, and he saw that God was at work in Antioch. He got involved by running the race with those who were on pace to win.
You might be willing to keep your faith low key, but today’s passage gives you a glimpse of what can happen when you choose to take what you know and walk with others on God’s path. The very nature of God urges you to stop living in spiritual solitude and start sharing the journey with those going the same way.
Prayer: Help me find people to encourage, Father, Help me understand that I sometimes need encouragement too. Trying to do both by myself just isn’t going to work.
