So I have a question about the passage Mark 11:20-25. It says,

" 20In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" 22"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."

It says to believe that what you ask for in prayer you have received it and it will be yours. Is that still true? And if so how are we supposed to interpret it today?

A lot of people ask God for things; so are they supposed to pretend they have them and then just wait to get them? Like what if someone you know has cancer. Then you ask God to cure them. Are you supposed to believe that you've received it and pretend that person is cured? I'm just a little confused on this.

Many people lift Scripture citations like this one out of the Bible and try to build a theology around it. Then they get angry at God when things don't go their way. We cannot put expectations upon God. He is sovereign (see Is 55:6-9; Ac 17:24), we cannot "hold His feet to the fire".

Also, God knows what is best all the time (see Is 55:8) and everything He does is based upon love, for He is love (1 Jn 4:7). My son was diagnosed with liver disease in April of 1996. I immediately set out to pray diligently for his salvation AND his healing. On August 7, 2007, David received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior approximately 1/2 hour before passing away. I was elated that he was saved, but bitterly disappointed that he had died. It was some months later, during prayer time, that the Lord showed me that had my son survived, he faced a dismal future and that He had blessed David by taking him to Paradise. Now I know where my son is and I know I'll be joining him.

Great post SpiritLedEd,

We also need to remember especially with this scripture that when we ask of things, we must always see if it is in the will of God. We really don't know what we want or need, we may think we do, but only God truly knows.

We can pray and pray for something and have it not happen simply because we are not seeking the will of God. We may pray for something and it come to pass, just to find out later that we did not seek God and found out that it was not something we actually needed or even wanted.

If we truly seek the Lord and what He desires and His will, then yes when we pray for something we can receive it because no matter what God will see it through, but again it has to be in His will.

Psalm 37:4 says "Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart."

Again this is the same thing, if we seek God and His will then he will give us the desires of our heart, which will be what God wants for us and His will.

Hi AudreyNicole,

Great question.

The Bible clearly teaches us that it is always His will to answer prayer -- if we meet the conditions of prayer, one of which DJ mentioned, namely, are we praying in the will of God?

We are not to pray then pretend God answers. Rather, we are to pray until the answer comes, or we have the assurance that God has/will answer. Sometimes it may take days, months or years before the answer comes, but if we know that it's God's will to answer such a prayer, we should keep on praying and not give up.

Cancer:

My son had Cancer, and was told just nine days of him being in Chicago Memorial Hospital that he would die. It was not the common B-cell but T-cell. They did everything they could, and nothing was working.

If you know God's will on Healing, then you will never Question his will concerning it, or his faithfulness to perform his Word. I spent a few years over 8 hours a day studying God's will concerning faith, and his will to heal, before my son was suddenly diagnosed with cancer. This came like a flood, and we just took him in for running a low grade fever for a couple weeks. In just one weeks time he went from low grade fever to being told that there was no way he was going to make it. I was told he was to die that night or sometime in the morning.

Jesus said believe that you receive them, then you shall have them. You need a base (God's Word) for what your able to believe. The human mind, and your flesh body has no ability to believe things you can not yet see. Faith produced by the power of the Word of God can, and rest in your spirit, not head.

Do not set the course the Wrong way:

When something tragic comes up, watch what you say. Jesus promised in Mark 11:23 that what you say and believe will come to pass, then Mark 11:24 he said when you stand praying believe that you receive, they are connected.

Always walk in Love and forgive.

Satan can do nothing to us, unless you give him permission to do so. Jesus gave us authority over him (Luke 10:19)

Jas 3:6
And, the tongue, is a fire,— as , the world of unrighteousness, the tongue, becometh fixed among our members, that which defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the wheel of our natural life, and is set on fire, by gehenna! Roth

Best thing to do when something tragic comes up or you first get news of something is shut up!!! If your not full of faith and the Word, what you say will set the course of that event. Jesus told us so, James told us so, and God told us to choose blessing or cursing. Choose the Word, choose blessing no matter the news or what it looks like. By faith the Elders obtained a good report, and so can you!!!

Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Many start off saying things full of doubt and unbelief and set the course of something, then attempt to ask God to change it. God already gave us the Key to victory, and the Word never fails. When they loose a loved one, they blame God, and God gets the blame for it.

I can't count the number of Children Pastor's have accused God of murdering them at a young age. It's Satan folks!!!! Not God.

God is not the thief, He is not the destroyer. (John 10:10)

People need to watch what they accuse God of, and check themselves. When I pray and something still stays messed up, and falls apart, I know it's me. I know I need to get some more faith, get wisdom on what to do, check my love walk. It is the Will of my father to protect and bless me, He does his part, if we will believe him and do ours.

When needing something from God, get the scriptures, stay in them day and night, confess nothing else. It may seem like a long time but faith will come and you will start to lay a hold and believe.

Four years ago, I started to confess that I am getting my buildings, my lands and houses. (Mark 11:23) four years go by.......... 4 YEARS!!!

Why? Well, I wanted a house with a fireplace, and access to a fishing dock, lots of land.

SOW!!!

My wife and I also sowed money to help others pay their mortgage, we Also sowed furniture (New not used) After three years it seemed impossible to get the house we wanted. Way, way, way out of our price range. In fact we have always rented small apartments.

Still, we kept sowing and confessing we are getting our buildings, our lands and houses. God is never limited to what we make, but what we are able to believe, and I have been building faith on this for 3 years.

Never give up!!! never waiver!!!

I am right now typing in my new house, the house was originally listed at over 200K, and the Lord moved and dropped it to 135K in just 2 weeks. I have two fire places, over 3 acres (Forgot about the mowing part) and large kitchen and my boat dock to Taneycomo lake Branson MO. We just moved in three weeks ago, and have pleanty of Money left.

It took over four years, after I started to believe God for the House, but I never gave up, and thanked him constantly for it, though I had no idea how it would happen.

You have come to late to tell me My Father in heaven does not want you healed, blessed, and have divine favor.

Jesus Is Lord.

miracles, prayers

The just live by Faith! You can have All the faith that ever was and its Worthless! Unless it coupled with LOVE!
Love gives us the correct reason for all we need and want! Faith will Not work without LOVE!
Of course it must be in HIS will also!
Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

WE are here on earth to be a living sacrifice
He wants to live though us so HE can bless others!
Everything we do must be for His glory and Honor!

Our reasons must be correct!

my little girls kitty died a while back, we prayed for it! I prayed under my breath also. That the LORD would bring it back , So she could have faith in HIm doing miracles in her life!
He did
I did not care about the kitten! I only cared about my 12 year old , being able to go to HIM in time of need!
My motive was correct! So He did it!
Had I wanted to some other reason? I doubt it would have taken place?
Might have been other good reasons? not sure!

Excellent post!

Faith begins where the will of God is known. If someone is not sure that God's will is to heal, how can they have true unwaivering faith?

*On a side note, you've inspired me to believe for a waterfront property with a fireplace and great fishing too!

Faith will Not work without LOVE!

That's a very good post but I have to disagree with you on the sentence above....true faith can and does work without love:

1 Corinthians 13

1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

That passage states that miracles and speaking with tongues and gifts of prophecy and knowledge and even faith to remove mountains still work but without the love/charity being present the person operating in that faith becomes a sounding brass, a tinkling cymbal, they are nothing because it profits them nothing.

Jesus said that there will be those who cast out demons, prophesy and even work miracles in His name without ever knowing him and operating in His love:

Matthew 7
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Faith will still work without love in the same way that we can do anything else without being motivated by love, but it's not God's best for us. It is not the highest form of operating in faith

One little problem? We are Not building up treasures on earth!

Rev 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

pretty sure, these had more faith than me! Yet were poor!
I have not read where any of the disciples were rich!

Not in this world!
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Not to say, He has not blessed me with money at times!
I guess the most ever was $85000.00

Which i had prayed for a home! I bought this house then for $47,000.00
That was i think 16 years ago

FAith love

Disciples: They were not poor!! Read Mark 10 and Peters shock to find out it's hard for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God. (Not Heaven)

Peter left all, yet because of all the healing and things Jesus did, many rich widows constantly threw money at them. Judas had the bag of money and no concern to anyone when they thought he was out handing their money to the poor. There was plenty of it.

Latter on, all the Christians sold everything and brought millions of dollars to the Church (Today's standard) which the disciples had access to if they needed more food or things to run the Church.

The scripture says that Nobody had lack of anything.

Love and faith:

Love worketh faith!!! Gal 5:6

Faith will not work without love.

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

There is nothing in this scripture that denotes miracles, (Just wonderful works) but the Work of the Holy Spirit which is a free gift. This passage is about entering Heaven at the time of death. We have no idea what state they were in at that time, but Jesus called them workers of iniquity. They most likely at one time were obeying God but got off track as the whole point was not walking in love, but doing the Will of God for your life.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

These attempted to enter heaven based on past works to get them in.

By breaking the two commandments. Love God with all your heart, love your neighbor, you transgress and your faith will not work.

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

grieve means distress, sorrow, but it can also mean to passively (inactive) be sad.

1Pe 3:7 In the same way you married men should live considerately with [your wives], with an [3] intelligent recognition [of the marriage relation], honoring the woman as [physically] the weaker, but [realizing that you] are joint heirs of the grace (God's unmerited favor) of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered and cut off. [Otherwise you cannot pray effectively.]

Thank you Krys!! :)

Love and faith:

Love worketh faith!!! Gal 5:6

Faith will not work without love...

Ahh, but it does not say that, rather it says:

6For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

It does not say that circumcision is not real, nor that it won't serve a purpose and 'work', but rather that it won't 'avail', it won't profit you or be to your advantage. So by the same token, we can understand that faith is real and will 'work', but it won't profit you anything.

Which falls right in line with what the following scripture I quoted earlier states...it will 'work' but it 'profits' you nothing:

1 Corinthians 13

1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Here is how it works! The world only needs Faith! The power is in the mighty name of JESUS! The LORD clearly says I never knew you to them!

We are under different rules! Everything we do ? Must be for his glory and honor! Love reveals this!

The world is judged by the law of moses !
We are not!
We are judged by the law of Christ Jesus!
Everything we do is as unto Him!

It all by LOVE and faith!

Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love

1Th 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

2Ti 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

The world is operating under a different system than us!

We are under HEAVENS [NEW JERUSALEMS system !

They only need faith! We need Faith coupled with LOVE! Love giving us the correct reasons!
God expects More from us , not less!

One little problem? We are Not building up treasures on earth!

Not in this world!
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Right, the love of money, not money itself, is the root of all evil and scripture bears that out over and over. Matthew 10, which many try to use as a 'poverty' proof, makes this clear:

23And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Money in an of itself is not evil and can be a very useful tool in the spreading of the gospel. As to your 'not in this world' comment, Jesus Himself says differently. He said that the faithful servant would:

Mark 10
30But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

The scripture says that Nobody had lack of anything.

...and we have many, many more scriptures that speak of God's will for the prosperity of His children:

Psalm 112
1Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. 3Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

Proverbs 13:22
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

We are Already part of the kingdom of Heaven!
That is our Home today! But He leaves us here to live though us!

You understand? They pooled all there monies together !Then it fail apart and Paul went asking for money for those of old jerusalem!

Rom 15:26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

Wonder why, God did not make them rich? After all they gave up all they had! Then Paul had to ask others in other places to help feed them!

Not saying the LORD will not fill our needs! I have LOTS the LORD gave me!

But I am not rich, nor have a great deal! but , I have my needs met and a little more!
I share what i can!

And none of the disciples , nor Jesus was rich in the things of this world!
I also am not saying, a person could be rich and still be in HIS perfect will!

Now if He wanted us All rich? Then we would be! But riches seems to pull us away from the LORD!

Seems to me? The scriptures teach when we are down and out , We seem to lean hard on HIM then!

2Co 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

He does promise too fill our NEEDS!

I guess we just see these things differently?

GOD is the one who Puts pure LOVE in us! We do not have His kind of pure LOVE !Until we are Born -Again! So our motives cannot be perfect!

He already knows that!
Rom 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

The world CANNOT operate in pure LOVE!Because they do not have it! We would Not either, unless He put it in us!

ummmm. Love, faith Hope.......

OK Sister!!! have it your way!!! Faith, love, hope.....sounds good

Money:

I would rather have pastors own jet airplanes than to see them with a logo of playboy on the side of them. Everything on the planet belongs to us!!!! All the Gold belongs to our father. Now Satan took it!!!

You reap what you sow. Your seed is multiplied!!!

My Pastor does have a nice Jet, and we ship over 80,000 dollars worth of free material all over the whole world WEEKLY!!!! Only God can do that.

Our multi million dollar church is paid for, and all 52 acres that surround it is paid for. The jet, 15 million is paid for.

Jesus was not broke, he was made poor so that you and I can be rich. We are told he will give us ALL THINGS to richly enjoy!!!

Now, he that is faithful with little will be given more!!! That is the laws of prosperity. You can't destroy yourself with riches if God gives them to you as He adds no sorrow to it.

We bought a new bed, 800.00 got to sleep in it a few times then God tells us to sow it to someone. Then he tells us to sow over 1,000 that same week to someone else that needed to pay rent. We got things, but at any moment they can go out the door. Once sowed they are increased more and more.

You can't be a giver, and be in faith and not get wealthy. Now when your seed is multiplied every time.

I said be in faith!!! believe God for everything you sowed as you have a right to reap, and be a blessing!!

God bless both of you.

Jesus is Lord.
