Ask and Receive Part 2: God's Will

OK so, a few weeks ago I posted a question about the passage from Matthew:

Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

I was basically wondering how this works, and from what I found out, in order to receive something you pray for it must be in God's will, and it is then that we may have full confidence that our prayers will be answered.

So here's the second part. How are we to know if something is in God's will? I don't want to pursue it if God doesn't want it for me. And I want to know how to follow God instead of simply following my selfish wants and desires. How are we to know that what we want and what we are praying for are what God wants for us?

I know God isn't some awful god that doesn't want us to be happy or get what we want, but I also know He wants us to glorify Him in everything we do. So how do you know what you want is right, and is in God's will?

AudreyNicole,

Those are some great questions.

To determine the will of God, we must start by praying and seeking His will. What I mean by praying is talking to God and having a personal intimate relationship with Him. Most of the time people ask God for what they need, pray for some people and then get up without asking God what He thinks and listening to His voice for direction.

Once you start having this intimate relationship you will start getting direction as to what God's will is and it will ALWAYS line up with the Word of God. You are right we have to make sure we don't go by what we want or feel, but once you have this relationship you will start to know God and His will.

For example, when I became a Christian a few years ago, I was seeking God's will for my life. I started to seek God, talk with Him, and after some time he put it on my heart to preach the Word of God. After a while I did visit my pastor to discuss and the first door was opened for me. I am still in the process of seeking His will as to how I will preach the Word (Pastor, evangelist etc..)

Here is an article that also may help: How can I know God's will for my life? What does the Bible say about knowing God's will?

God Bless,

DJ

The confidence we have in Him.

God's word is his will as he magnified his Word above his name.

Stealing is against his will, Supply all your needs is in his will.

As for asking for things that your not sure about..........

You have more of God's plan in you than you even realize. Your heart desire will coincide with His will.

Sometimes you just have to learn. A couple I knew thought it was God's will that they go to Hawaii and preach. I knew it was not God's will, but I did not say anything.

They even drove 2 hours to the airport thinking that tickets would just show up. Nope...........

God always supports his Plan. One way to tell that it's not God is that the provision will not be there to sustain it. God is not obligated to bless something he has not planed.

Psa 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Jesus Is Lord.
