as Christians should we wathc horror movies

saw vi just came out but i don't think i should go see it tell me do you think i'm over reacting or is there somne merit to not watchinig horror films even though I REALLY LIKE HORROR it's like my favorite genre next to action but i'm mixed on it does any one have a comment about it why we should or why we shouldn't?

I understand what you mean. I used to watch Horror movies all the time....a while back BUT I've learned to guard my spirit.

I discovered that whatever you allow into your immediate surrounding has an impact on your mind. Our mind is Satan's favourite battleground and he loves to create havoc there. We as Christians, do NOT want to give him the upper hand in an way, shape or form.

Also, horror movies can invite unwanted spirits around you that you may not even be aware of. Plus there's the issue of nightmares (for me anyway).

Anything that comes against God, mocks Him or dishonours Jesus in any way, we as His children should avoid. That becomes more apparent and easier to do as we walk more in the spirit.

Sometimes, it takes the Holy Spirit to convict us and let us know what's not good for us so we can make the right or better choice. If it's good in God's eyes, then it definitely will be good for us.

I love a good scary movie. I am not into demonic movies or torture and mutilation but I love a good sci-fi, creature feature, etc.
I have no problem enjoying these and I know it is only fiction. That being said if I am watching something and i get a check in my spirit I will turn it off. Other than that I am free to enjoy them as long as my fredom does not cause another to stumble.

I think it is very important to guard your spirit and what you allow in your heart and mind. What will you gain from watching the movie and is it worth any negative impact that it might bring to you?

As a veteran in the dark spirtualist cultism, I can safely assure that this is only partially true. So, if I watch my WWE Wrestling, will it cause
Randy Orton to haunt me? :shock:

Tell me, have you heard of the "Children that play violent video games become serial killers?"

Is this based on one or two incidents?

If it were so that horror movies were not of God, why? If we could not enjoy these titles, then technically we could not watch anything.
Look at programs such as Secret Life - that promotes all sort of behaviour that God is against. But that is Non-fiction.

I could go on, but there is something in there to think about.

You're supposed to guard your spirit because it serves you well to do so. This you should already know.

When you think on things that are lovely and clean and positive, your mind can't help but be cleaner and upbeat.

The eyes are the window to the soul. A show, programme or movie can stay with you long after it's over (as if you didn't know that)

If shows didn't have such a powerful draw on our emotions and psyche, the producers won't bother.

And IF they know, how much more do we?

Watch anything you want by all means...but there's always a price to pay for our carnal pleasures.

Choose death or choose life....

If you're willing to pay the price, by all means, have at it. Just make sure you don't turn around and shake your fist at God when the time to pay comes and you find out that you can't really afford to.

Seeing it would be falling to corruption of the world, as it is worldly, not spiritual, and devastating to those mindful of Christ. I failed on halloween, though, and watched a really really old horror movie, so it's not like we're perfect. I watched some old zombie movie, I'll admit it was a waste of time, but I wanted to see how terrible an original horror flick was... pretty bad, and corrupted ofc.

Halloween should just be a harvest festival to us, as the holiday is junk in my eyes.


So if you see it... Well, I wouldn't go see it, I'd feel bad and think it's terrible anyway... but if you gotta do it, you gotta understand it's just falling for corruptible man, which is understandable though... Easily forgiveable :)

I read a lil bit about something close to what your are inquiring about, bacause i have a brother who loves horror movies and all these many shows on ghosts and haunted places lately. And it goes something like this: Although we cannot deny that spirits/ghosts and/or demons exist, Its when we have a unhealthy relationship and infatuation twords these things is when we go wrong.

We cannot deny that satan, demons and spirits exist, but its when we in other words tend to "like" to see them and/or theyr actions as if we are entertained by them instead of looking at them for what they truly are (evil) thats when we really miss the concept of obstaining from many of these fascinations. It just really opens the door for many doubts and falsities. Example: Halloween has been turned into a much celebrated holiday and basically glorifies gools and gobblins, and Christmas is sadly turned into a man with presents rather than The Man who actually gave the ultimate present(everlasting life,forgiveness etc..) Easter a rabbit basically instead of The Ressurection. Although these things didnt really happen on the actual date they are being celebrated thats when we celebrate them. To get back on track, Its more then essential to call a spade a spade, and a square a square in any aspect of life.

Sorry for the long post. And sorry if i came off the wrong way, just trying to be helpfull on how teh Blessed Holy Spirit has shown me in my walk With Christ.

Go watch it, just don't emulate anything you see. At one point in history theater was considered to be the work of Satan; no ones going to protest "Fiddler on the Roof",because its demonic, are they? Times change. It is violent, gory and goes against all of the Bible's teachings, but its fake; it isn't real. Oddly enough I was supposed to go see Saw tonight with my friends but some things came up :wink:. As long as you don't pull a Jigsaw, I'm sure its fine.

For me personally, I can't watch horror movies without getting nightmares. I have a photographic memory.

Some might be able to and everything, but if you can sin does that mean you should?

The Bible says in Proverbs 4:23 "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

If everything you see or hear goes into your heart, your soul...even if I would close my eyes during a horror movies I would still hear the sounds :-S

It is like walking a thin line and playing chicken with a train.

Or...having a little bit of poop in the brownies.

The story of the dad and his kids is below.

Two teenagers asked their father if they could go to the theater to watch a movie that all their friends had seen. After reading some reviews about the movie on the Internet, he denied their request.

"Aw dad, why not?" they complained. "It's rated PG-13, and we're both older than thirteen!"

Dad replied: "Because that movie contains nudity and portrays immorality as being normal and acceptable behavior."

"But dad, those are just very small parts of the movie! That's what our friends who've seen it have told us. The movie is two hours long and those scenes are just a few minutes of the total film! It's based on a true story and good triumphs over evil, and there are other redeeming themes like courage and self-sacrifice. Even the movie review websites say that!"

"My answer is 'no,' and that is my final answer. You are welcome to stay home tonight, invite some of your friends over, and watch one of the good videos we have in our home collection. But you will not go and watch that film. End of discussion."

The two teenagers walked dejectedly into the family room and slumped down on the couch. As they sulked, they were surprised to hear the sounds of their father preparing something in the kitchen. They soon recognized the wonderful aroma of brownies baking in the oven, and one of the teenagers said to the other,
"Dad must be feeling guilty, and now he's going to try to make it up to us with some fresh brownies. Maybe we can soften him with lots of praise when he brings them out to us and persuade him to let us go to that movie after all."

The teens were not disappointed. Soon their father appeared with a plate of warm brownies, which he offered to his kids. They each took one. Then their father said, "Before you eat, I want to tell you something: I love you both so much. That is why I've made these brownies with the very best ingredients. I've made them from scratch. Most of the ingredients are even organic. The best organic flour. The best free-range eggs. The best organic sugar. Premium Vanilla and chocolate."

The brownies looked mouthwatering, and the teens began to become a little impatient with their dad's long speech.
"But I want to be perfectly honest with you. There is one ingredient I added that is not usually found in brownies. I got that ingredient from our own back yard. But you needn't worry, because I only added the tiniest bit of that ingredient to your brownies. The amount of the portion is practically insignificant. So go ahead, take a bite and let me know what you think."

"Dad, would you mind telling us what that mystery ingredient is before we eat?"

"Why? The portion I added was so small. Just a teaspoonful. You won't even taste it."

"Come on, dad; just tell us what that ingredient is."

"Don't worry! It is organic, just like the other ingredients."

"Dad!"

"Well, OK, if you insist. That secret ingredient is fresh organic...dog poop."

Both teens instantly dropped their brownies back on the plate and began inspecting their fingers with horror. "DAD! Why did you do that? You've tortured us by making us smell those brownies cooking for the last half hour, and now you tell us that you added dog poop! We can't eat these brownies!"

"Why not? The amount of dog poop is very small compared to the rest of the ingredients. It won't hurt you. It's been cooked right along with the other ingredients. You won't even taste it. It has the same consistency as the brownies. Go ahead and eat!"

"No, Dad...NEVER!"

"And that is the same reason I won't allow you to go watch that movie. You won't tolerate a little dog poop in your brownies, so why should you tolerate a little immorality in your movies? We pray that God will not lead us unto temptation, so how can we in good conscience entertain ourselves with something that will imprint a sinful image in our minds that will lead us into temptation long after we first see it?"

Yeah this is about immorality, but I think it can be about gore, blood, etc.

Just think about it.

Sadly, yes I have heard of horrific crimes that have been influenced by occultic material that is often included in todays hooror movies. But the problem doesn't stop with movies, it also includes some computer games. Thankfully, more and more professional bodies in the secular section of society are accepting the very real link between horror movies and computer games with much of the violence we see on our streets today.I have read in the press of numerous crimes that have been influenced by the perpetrator watching endless hours of violent or pornographic videos.

large corporations spend millions of dollars/ pounds in advertising revenues for commercials that are highly visual productions. It has taken years of research for the creators of such promotions to learn that what the eye sees the mind retains. And so they use this information in the sure hope that you the viewer and consumer will act on what you have seen. And it must work or else there would be a lot of commercial TV stations out of business.

The apostle Paul writes about us 'Renewing our minds' (Romans 12:2) In other words, clearing out the junk that we have collected from the secular world and replacing it with Godly thoughts. He also writes 'set your hearts on things above . . . set your minds on things above, not on earthly things' (Colossians 3:1-2).

We must not give the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:27) And watching horror movies, that are not inspired by God, and most certainly inspired by the devil, as someone has already wisely said, opens the door to our hearts and minds to all kinds of evil suggestions, consciously and sub consciously..

Trust the uk to follow the American trend of Halloween, trick or treat night! I only wish we had followed your Thanksgiving celebrations instead.

It appears obvious to me by your defence that you see no harm at all in viewing horror material. can you honestly tell me that the grotesque images portrayed in such movies are from pure clean Godly thoughts? If this is what you feel led to defend then I must in all honesty and brotherly love encourage you to bury yourself in God's word. Feed His Spirit within you and I guarantee you will think differently. (Ephesians 5:26) There is no place in the light for darkness and there are no horror movies that I have ever heard of that displays or extols the things of God.

Yes, I would have to say no to watching horror movies.. What we put into our minds does come out one way or another.... Also, what does Christian mean, it means to be Christ-like.. I know my King and Lord would not watch horror movies or alot of junk that is called TV today.... we are to walk like Him and also His word says "let this mind be in you also that is Christ Jesus." Also, asking God to create in us a clean heart how can we ask that then do things that are not what He would do... HE is coming back for a spotless bride.... I need to keep my eyes on Him at all times..

Wordzspitta, your profile indicates that you've been delivered from a number of bad habits. Why are you hanging on to this one? It indicates that you are excited about growing as a believer, yet you don't let go of a habit that works against that.
