And so it was, when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps as she came through the door, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend [to be] another [person]? For I [have been] sent to you [with] bad [news]. 1 Kings 14:6 NKJV

The Bible is full of irony, and today’s key verse is an example. Wicked King Jeroboam’s wife comes and goes, but the blind prophet Ahijah is sent by God—even though he doesn’t leave his house!

This seems suggestive of part of what Jesus meant in John 20:21 when He said, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." Perhaps the emphasis, when the Lord sends someone, isn’t so much on coming and going, but on doing what He commands…being a sent man.

This seems borne out by many other statements by Jesus from Matthew 4:19 to John 13:20 and statements by the apostles themselves from Acts 8:14 to 1 Thessalonians 3:2 and 1 Thessalonians 3:5.

Like Ahija, are you willing to obey the Lord’s clear-cut commands to declare His inspired, biblical message points to others?

Prayer: Lord, You want me to live as a man sent by God—in my home, in my workplace, and in other spheres of my life. Where I am, I’ll live as sent by You!

Yes, we all are sent, the moment we accept the mantle of being a disciple of Christ. What we are being sent to do varies a little based upon the spiritual gifts we are given as the body of Christ, but all are sent that are of the Body of Christ.
