"And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. "As yet I [am as] strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength [was] then, so now [is] my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Joshua 14:10-11 NKJV
Caleb was a man who seized adventure and challenge just as vigorously in his old age as he had in his youth. More importantly, Caleb renewed his strength and ability by continually trusting and obeying the Lord wholeheartedly.
Joshua and Caleb were the only senior citizens left among the Israelites. After spying the land the first time, they alone believed God’s promises and power to defeat the Canaanites and give them the land. Because of their faith, they alone were spared when everyone else over twenty years of age was sentenced to die in the wilderness wanderings.
More than forty years later, Caleb’s faith in the power of God still burned bright. When he saw the great mountains and walled cities a second time, he knew they still were no match for his God. The Lord had promised the land in the Israelites and Moses had promised these particular mountains to Caleb. Age didn’t matter when it came to trusting God. The Lord was with him and Caleb knew he could conquer any obstacle. You can too.
Prayer: Lord, You want me to look to the future, not the past. You want me to take courage no matter how big the challenge.
