is there anyone here that would like to study these out?

How about "the seed and the sower" Jesus said that if we don't understand it we won't understand any of them.

excellent chad, thank you.

jiggy fly- the seed and the sower is a great parable to start with. its the first parable recorded in the new testiment of jesus speaking it. lets take this to the parables of jesus that chad has set up for us. he has them all there.

do to a pm i am continueing this study here. i will post the parable shortly.

Yeah I am up for a study on the parables... let me know what's happening. I don't know them nearly as well as I should like to!

i think before we get going into this we need to see the meaning of the word parable.

parable-1. a proverbial saying used in wisdom and prophetic discourse.
2. a story which things in the spiritual realm are compared with
with events that could happen in the temporal realm; or, an
earthly story with a heavenly meaning.

the impotance of this is that many teach a worldly literal teaching of these parables. take for instance the prosperity gospels will tell people that the lord has 16 parables in whicn jesus talks about money so that means we should be about money. however there is not 1 parable that is actually about money.

definitely. what's the plan... which parable are we going to look at first...?

One thing which Jesus said about His parables:

Matthew 13:10-17 NKJV
The Purpose of Parables

10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”
11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

‘ Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I shouldheal them.’
16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

Parables are meant for the lost, those that don't have an open mind for God. I'm not saying it's wrong to read the parables, but you shouldn't base your future on it, where Jesus talks directly, that's what you should study.

God bless

faithful son, i do not think it would be wise to neglect the study of the parables. here are the reasons why.

1, if they were of no importants to all man saved or usaved, i do not believe that they would be in the word of god as they are nor so many of them.

2. if we are to be christ like why would we not want to study the way that he taught as his teachings were perfect.

3, i also believe that we can gain in knowledge and wisdom from this study and better equip ourselves for the attacks of the enemy.

there are many other reasons but i think that these few should be reasson enough.

I'm just sharing the Scripture brother, I didn't say don't study it, but you need to know what a parable and it's role is before just commence studying.

Jesus' Words are never obsolete, so the parables matter, but how you apply the parables to your life should be important. Reading them and learning from them is important, but you should know they are there to open the hearts of lost and that's what their role is.

The parable of the prodigal son is my favourite parable.

Matthew 13:10-17 "The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: " 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

Jesus explained that He used parables so that the hearts of those rejecting would not be hardened further. The same sun that softens the wax hardens the clay; and so the very same gospel message which breaks down honest hearts and leads to repentance, hardens the hearts of the dishonest and confirms them in their path of disobedience.

Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand: In this sense, the parables of Jesus were not illustrations making difficult things clear to all who heard. They were a way of “encoding” God’s message so the spiritually sensitive could understand, but the hardened would merely hear a story without heaping up additional condemnation to themselves for rejecting God’s Word.

And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: By speaking in parables, Jesus also fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, speaking in a way that the hardened would hear but not hear and see but not see.

But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear: In light of this, how blessed are those who do understand the parables of Jesus. Not only do they gain the benefit of the spiritual truth illustrated, but they also display some measure of responsiveness to the Holy Spirit.

Parables generally teach one main point or principle. We can get into trouble by demanding that they be intricate systems of theology, with the smallest detail revealing hidden truths.

"But Jesus recognized, as the Parable of the Soils clearly implies, that some were hostile or indifferent to His teaching. He knew that human soil, stubbornly refusing a harvest, falls under heavier indictment with each fresh sowing; that privileges abused confirm the abusers in their disobedience. He knew also that no good purpose is served by heedlessly exposing truth to mockery . . . Thus, in respect to the obdurate, the parabolic method was twice blessed: By veiling truth, it guarded it from raillery; and the hostile received despite themselves, a story that might germinate in secret, but which did not confirm hostility and deepen guilt, as a plainer statement might have done, by provoking enmity to wrath." (George Buttrick, The Parables of Jesus)

Thank you for your post brother, I agree with you and that's essentially what I was aiming at, save I couldn't provide it so clearly as you did.

God bless
