SAMARIA was the first Christian mission field mentioned by Jesus after Judea (Acts 1,8), but not one of the disciples who original heard Christ’s Great Commission went – NOT ONE.
They hung around the temple in Jerusalem for about 20 years. But there was a Greek-speaking Jew whom the apostles had chosen to cater for widows, Philip by name. I can imagine how again and again Philip asked the apostles “did Jesus really mention SAMARIA? Why is nobody going?”
Then Phillip couldn’t bear it any longer. He slipped away quietly to this unlikely land to give it a go - just like the Samaritan woman before him. The apostles knew nothing about it until thousands had been saved and baptized including a leading Ethiopian official. God loves people with reckless faith.
Philip had no supporters and no organization behind him. The woman at the well and Philip were evangelistic entrepreneurs.
His missions’ committee had a membership of two, Philip and the Holy Spirit, with the Holy Spirit as chairman. Any other Phillips around?
