Thank you for your response. I believe I understand what you are saying concerning Romans 11:32. However, the 'all' of Romans 11:32, is intended to place both Jew and Gentile on a level playing-field, to show that 'all' have sinned and come should of the glory of God, and thereby showing that all need to come to God for forgiveness by the same way, and that is on the basis of the sacrificial work of Christ on their behalf. All have the potential to receive of God's mercy and grace, but not all will, for not all will seek His forgiveness, and receive the salvation of God by faith in His Beloved Son.

It's best to interpret Romans 11:32 with Romans 11:25-26 which says "THE FULLNESS OF THE GENTILES SHALL COME IN" and "ALL Israel SHALL BE SAVED"

Which is why Jesus said, Behold I make ALL THINGS NEW.

I agree with you that we should beware of allowing our presuppositions to determine it's meaning. The use of the word eternity, appears to be an indefinitely long period, one unplumable by the human mind, but known of God.

* I am happy with the definitions of aion and aionos, and it's usage, that I found in 'The New Englishman's Concordance':-

- an indefinitely long period, of eternity (past or future) as in John 6:51 & John 9:32,
- or of a certain segment of time, an era or age (present or futre) as in Matthew 12:32 or Mark 10:30,
- or can also be used of the material universe as the manifestation of the ages, ie., the aggregate of things contained in time as in Matthew 12:32, Matthew 13:22, and Matthew 24:3, where it is translated 'world'.

* That really covers all it's usage, I feel.

What a botch commentaries have made of the simple greek word 'AION', which means "eon" which is "an age"

@Butch5 "Aionious" and it's derivations is plural for "ages". Louis Abbot's, "Analytical Study of Words" will clear things up

Though I agree that commentaries and dictionary and concordance definitions must be brought to the word of God, and judges according to Scripture, I believe that the definition I quoted, in reply#219, gives a good understanding of how the words aionos and aion are used in Scripture.

One of them was circumcision (no longer required) Gen 17:10-12
One God took care of both sides of the covenant. (He carried the torch between the two halves of the bull). Gen 15:17-18; The land of Canaan (Gen 17)
Technically Gen 17:19-21 is with Isaac/Ishmael

No sir. The New Covenant is the Christians hope...You could call it The Covenant of Grace. Its the covenant between the Father and Jesus. That's our covenant. That's the one we live under...And because we live under THAT covenant we become beneficiaries of all the other covenants..The Adamic, Davidic the Noahide The Abrahamic and so on They all belong to us. .But we live under the New Covenant
