Past what is seen on the surface
Inside of me
Lives a little girl
She's scared of the dark
Scared of what he'll do
What they will say
This little girl cries a lot
As she burrows deep
Until all is hidden under sheets
This little girl comes out to play
When I'm scared and I remember
And cry and cry and cry
A voice calls softly to me
Jennifer. Jennifer. Jennifer.
And I feel such warmth
It's okay the voice says
And gentle words are sung over me
And I cry and I cry and I cry
I will collect your tears, My child
It's okay to cry
It's where the healing begins

Slowly the tears ebb and the voice whispers
It's okay, My child, for I have always loved you
