And God Said "No"

Member
Author: Claudia Minden Welsz

I asked God to take away my pain.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
Her spirit was whole, her body was only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a by-product of tribulations; it isn't granted, it is earned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me.
God said... Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

Hello Hadirfuss,

I too recall reading this poem some time ago. Thank you for bringing back to my mind. It is something I need to hear daily of God's wisdom and love that He has for us. That He is willing to deny us of our wants so that we may be willing to let go of our selfishness that hinders our walk with Him. God bless.

Best wishes,
Snowrose

I really

enjoyed the poem. Especially the ending. I just had to chuckle.

It's almost like God has a sense of humor and does the Bill Engval... "here's your sign".....lol

Love the poem too.

I have a Great Granddaughter , 5 years old, I teach that love sometimes says No!
She's not sure she likes that lesson, to often she gets her own way being the youngest, and many family members.
Should I add, a bit spoiled?
Love her dearly so a needed lesson.

I love that poem - thanks for posting this. I'd also like to recommend Greg Long's song "Mercy Said No" (which I found on Myspace). He's a great Christian singer/songwriter and that song in particular is amazing.

"Life and death stood face to face, darkness tried to steal my soul away, but thank you, Jesus, mercy said no..."

It's so beautiful!

:)!

That is so good and wise and beautiful and touching. :) Wow.
Great ending too!

I look forward to reading more of your work and having further glimpses into your beautiful heart for God. Thank you.

PS: Have you tried to publish this? Check out the Writer's Market book.

This would actually make a great little book! With pictures that go with the words....Just a thought.
