"No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:24 HCSB
Can you have more than one best friend? The word best suggests there is no one better than that. You can have many good friends, but there is usually one that somehow “gets you” like no one else. It’s easier to trust that person because he’s proved himself as someone who will always be there for you.
If you call two people your best friend, it might seem like your allegiance is divided. You might change best friends over time. One might move away, circumstances might change, or the relationship becomes seasonal.
You can be undivided when every part of what makes you, you wrestle intellectually and spiritually with the issue of who you trust most, follow hardest, and can’t live without. One choice is God. The other choice is anything but God. It could be money, amusement, or friends. This list is much longer, but the truth is you can’t have both God and anything else vying for the top spot in your heart.
Prayer: Father, I can never be successful doing what I want to do and what You want me to do at the same time. Help me make following You the most important decision I will ever make.
