Luke 12
9 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
This world is temporary. God sees this all that is ever existent in this life as fleeting with great speed. With urgency all men and women are told in scripture to repent and turn from the corruption of this world. However, the gaze into eternity should not stop there. The Lord has told us to be kingdom minded people, aiming for riches in eternity: these are imperishable and unable to be of being stolen. In today's world, advertising raises up on all sides to tell us to pursue jewelry, elegant clothing, vacations of various sort, and technological innovations. While these possessing these things does not qualify as sinful, putting the purchase of such things as the highest set goals is inexpedient. Will any of these earthly pleasures be taken with us in the grave? Will God, at the believer's judgement, give us eternal rewards for the level of pleasures we partook in? The answer is no. One question which I can see us all being inquired of, is "How much did you love?". Look at Corinthians 13 and you shall see a multilayer description of love. Love extends outwardly. How are we using our spiritual gifts, our time, our labor, and our finances for kingdom purposes and to ministe onto others? Deeds both little and large are viewed by the Lord in eternity.
