“Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God. For I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and round about as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.” (Romans 15:17-19 NASB1995)

This was the apostle Paul speaking to the church. And here he was talking about how he, in Christ Jesus, found reason to boast (glory, rejoice) in things pertaining to God. He gave the glory to God for any good that God, by his Spirit, accomplished in and through his life and witness for Christ and for the gospel of Christ. And that is the way it should be for us all. We should never take the glory for what God accomplishes through our lives via our obedience to him in walks of surrender to his will, as the servants of Christ.

We should thank and praise the Lord always for what he accomplishes through our obedience to him. We should thank him and praise him just for the breath of life each day to keep on living, and for all the good he brings into our lives. But we should also thank him for the trials and the tribulations which he allows to come into our lives, which are intended for our good, to mature us in Christ, to humble us, to make us more like Jesus, to have closer walks with Jesus, and to make us more compassionate and loving.

And if we give testimony to what God is doing in and through our lives, which should be for the encouragement and strengthening of the body of Christ in their walks of faith in obedience to the Lord, it should never be to try to make ourselves look good. But always it should bring glory and honor to God for what he is accomplishing in and through our lives, resulting in other people coming to genuine faith in the Lord, resulting in them dying to sin and walking in obedience to the Lord, in accord with God’s perfect will.

Also what this means is that we do not minister for Christ in our own flesh, of our own will and purpose, according to our own means. Whatever ministry areas we end up in should be because we are called of God to those ministries, and with the full acknowledgment that we can only do what we do in the power of God, by his Spirit guiding us and directing us in what we are to do and say. For example, I do what I do daily as called of God, led by His Spirit, and empowered by God, and not of my own will or purpose.

And I am not claiming absolute perfection in everything that I do or say, either, for I am still clay in the hands of the Potter (God) being molded and shaped into the likeness of Christ, in character. And this is a lifelong process of sanctification which will not be complete until our Lord returns for his faithful servants, and he takes us to be with him for eternity. And I am presently dealing with some physical issues which impact both my cognitive and body functions, too, which can impact my ability to write, too, at times.

So, considering some of the things I have going against me and my ability to do what I do each day in obedience to the Lord, it is a miracle of God’s grace that I have been able to continue with my writing. So I definitely give God all the glory for any good he accomplishes in my life, or through my testimony for him in the lives of other people. For more than anyone else on this earth, I am fully aware that I am only able to do what I do each day by the grace of God, as led by his Spirit, and as empowered and strengthened by God.

All glory and praise and honor belong to God and to God alone! Amen!

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
