Where in the Bible does it speak about the afterlife (life after death) but before judgement day / eternity in Heaven? Its either paradise for the saved or *word missing* (I have NO idea why but I have this sudden mental block that I cannot remember this word of the place where the unsaved go). Please help LOL :)

LOL, this is so strange. I can't believe I can't remember the word. It is so easy and obvious but for some funny reason I have this block in my head over this word. Anyways, it is not paradise but the place of complete darkness and loneliness (hell minis the fire that is), for the unsaved. What is that place's name?

Eccl 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Does this help?

Peace be with you,
John.

Maybe the word you are looking for is 'sheol'. It is not actually in the Bible but it is the Hebrew word which os translated in Proverbs 15:11 (KJV) as hell & destruction.

Chad I have the same wonder in my own head, and would love it explained, I don't believe in purgatory, but below is what I posted on another thread in 'Stories' under 'A Sensitive Topic' but I think it belongs here instead.

When a Christian person passes away-goes to Glory, Heaven Yes? so therefore a non-Christian goes to Hell yes?
but it says in the Bible in Revelations that at the second coming of our Lord Jesus the dead shall rise first to meet up with those christian's left in the world to meet in the air then shall take place the day of Judgement, so how can we go to Heaven or Hell now in passing on?
Hope you understand what I mean.
Thank you.

Am I right when I see it is true there is a time between after death (flesh) and before heaven/hell? I'm not good at remembering locations in Scripture so please someone post some example verses.

I am Church of Ireland myself, although I don't attend it, I go to City Mission, and am visiting Brethren at present I'm looking for a Morning Worship Church at present as I have came away from the one I had been attending, Elim it is Evangelical, my husband didn't feel comfortable with the way they praise and if I'm ever to get him to our Lord it will not be by attending it, so I have to find somewhere that he will feel comfortable as he has only started to go with me and I want to try with God's help to keep him with me, on a Sunday Morning.

Does no one have an answer to this topic? Heaven/Hell
I know it is a hard one, and I've been wanting to ask my clergy about it so next meeting I will and I will post back and give their answer.

I think I know the answer now. Torment! Correct me if I'm wrong, it is either paradise or torment (hell less the fire). Or, maybe torment just happens to be another name for sheol (but remember we're talking before the judgement and heaven/hell and right after death of the body).

Heaven/Hell

Thank you Chad I've never heard of 'sheol ' could you direct to me to where that is in the Bible? I would really love to read it
Your answer is great though, and I can believe it could be hell without the fire, I really thank you for that.

HELL.
The word used in the King James Version of the O.T. to translate the Hebrew word sheol, signifying the unseen state, in Deut. 32:22; 2 Sam. 22:6; Job 11:8; 26:6; Psa. 9:17; 16:10; 18:5; 55:15; 86:13; 116:3; 139:8; Prov. 5:5; 7:27; 9:18; 15:11,24; 23:14; 27:20; Isa. 5:14; 14:9,15; 28:15,18; 57:9; Ezek. 31:16,17; 32:21,27; Amos 9:2; Jonah 2:2; Hab. 2:5.

Translation of the Greek word hades in N.T. of King James Version, the unseen world, Matt. 11:23; 16:18; Luke 10:15; 16:23; Acts 2:27,31; Rev. 1:18; 6:8; 20:13,14;

Greek word gehenna, signifying the place of torment, Matt. 5:22,29,30; 10:28; 18:9; 23:15,33; Mark 9:43,45,47; Luke 12:5; Ja. 3:6;

Greek verb tartaro¢, signifying the infernal region, 2 Pet. 2:4.

Sheol is also translated "grave'' in King James Version in Gen. 37:35; 42:38; 44:29,31; 1 Sam. 2:6; 1 Kin. 2:6,9; Job 7:9; 14:13; 17:13; 21:13; 24:19; Psa. 6:5; 30:3; 31:17; 49:14,15; 88:3; 89:48; 141:7; Prov. 1:12; 30:16; Eccl. 9:10; Song 8:6; Isa. 14:11; 38:10,18; Ezek. 31:15; Hos. 13:14; pit, Num. 16:30,33; Job 17:16.

The English revisers insert the Hebrew word sheol in places where hell, grave, and pit were used in the A.V. as translations of the word sheol, except in Deut. 32:22; Psa. 55:15; 86:13; and in the prophetical books. The American revisers invariably use Sheol in the American text, where it occurs in the original.

Sheol

Chad thank you for all those references I will be reading up on it over the next few days. I use the King James Version Bible as this is the one widely used here were I live in Northern Ireland, but I also use the New International Version for references (NIV) thank you again for taking the time to send all those references.
