But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall. He sinned against the LORD his God by entering the sanctuary of the LORD's Temple and personally burning incense on the incense altar. 2 Chronicles 26:16 NLT

There is power in a prideful man. That power is never on the side of the good and wholesome. Prideful men can tear people down, make them feel small, and advertise personal superiority. That may be the allure of pride—the belief that no one is better, bigger, or stronger. But prideful men never really think about comparing themselves to God. Why? They can’t measure up. Instead of seeing God as someone to worship, prideful men either resent Him or dismiss Him. Is it any wonder the proud can’t stand long?

Think intentionally about all that God has made, done, and keeps doing. He has kept things together since the dawn of creation. He doesn’t destroy mankind, even though He could. He gives when people take—even when those same people say they got what they have without His help.

Refuse to be like King Uzziah. Feel free to see your smallness when you compare yourself to God—and in doing so, dismiss pride. Use your mind to accept the truth, your heart to experience truth, and your spirit to listen to the God who defines truth.

Prayer: You’re so much more than I’ll ever be, Father. I believe it, but there will be days when You’ll need to remind me. Thank You for still loving me when my mouth fails to speak of Your greatness but instead brags about my personal skills and accomplishments.
