Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

This is the age of superheroes. They fill comic books, television series, and big-budget movies. They have distinct personalities and impressive abilities. Have you ever wondered why they’re so popular?

Confidence is hard to find when life seems uncertain. The result is high anxiety. Superheroes become substitutes for diminished personal confidence. God has always had a better idea. In every circumstance you can pray and ask a loving God for help. He is looking out for you. Be grateful. Above all, refuse every delivery of anxiety. Be confident in the God who rescues and delights in taking care of His family.

You don’t need to wear a cape, have a secret cave filled with expensive super toys, or look for help from super-powered friends. Psalm 20:7 says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

Anxiety diminishes your ability to trust, fills your mind with scenarios that aren’t acquainted with reality, and has an odd way of diminishing your ability to hear others speak truth. Anxiety tells God that you’re not convinced He’s strong enough to handle your deepest struggles.

Find your greatest confidence in the One who has always been super trustworthy.

This was the subject of my quiet time with the Lord today, too. There are so many scriptures that speak of God rescuing and delivering us from our enemies, from our trials, and from evildoers, and so it can get disheartening when we are not physically delivered, but when we are called upon to endure unjust suffering, instead. But, I think it is because we don't always understand that "deliverance" and "rescuing" are not always physical. God does not always remove us from difficulties, but he promises to be with us through them, to help us, and to deliver us spiritually and mentally and emotionally through them, while he calls on us to endure, and to rest in him, and to let him work his will and his purposes in and through our lives for his glory.
