And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country. Genesis 30:25 NKJV

Many years had passed since Jacob began working for Haban so he could marry Rachel. He was more than a little eager to leave. He now had eleven sons and had worked hard to make a living that would allow him to free himself from Laban. His father-in-law made leaving hard.

God was blessing Jacob, and his time in the divine waiting room was almost over. Laban changed Jacob’s wages repeatedly, but God blessed Jacob repeatedly. No matter how unfair the labor talks became, God found a way to bless Jacob. Laban didn’t like it.

When it comes to waiting, you need to know that it will eventually come to an end. There will be relief—you’ll discover an open door, and God will lead you through. Waiting is not stopping. It’s not giving up. It’s not even a crushed dream. Waiting is a time of preparation for God’s next step for you. You’re going to need to be ready when God’s “No waiting on aisle five” sign lights up.

What are you waiting for? Is it something God can bless? Will it be worth the wait? Endurance is certainty that difficulties will seem small when the answer arrives.

Prayer: God, I’ve been in Your waiting room and I have wondered why. Help me remember the wait prepares me for Your answer.
