"You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them and completely break down their [sacred] pillars. Exodus 23:24 NKJV
God wants His family to endure the things that change lives and enhance futures. He wants you to realize that you will face trouble but that He’ll be with you. He wants to be clear that you won’t endure alone.
There are things God doesn’t want you to endure. The verse above is an example of one of those things. This wasn’t the first time God made a command like this Exodus 20:3 says, “You shall have no other gods before Me” (NKJV).
God doesn’t want you to serve anything in place of Him. He doesn’t want you to follow other teachings. He wants you to put aside everything that could distract you from Him.
What does that look like? Teachings that contradict His, objects that become more important than Him, and thoughts that cause you to doubt His truth.
Everyone has something that could become more important than God…at least some of the time. You are unique and only you can name what that is for you. Enjoy what God has given you, but never let stuff become more important than Him.
Prayer: Father, You are a one-and-only God. No one matches You in power, wisdom, and love. May I never replace Your meaningful with society’s meaningless.
