And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son, (John 14:13)

It is not every believer who has yet learned to pray in Christ’s name. To ask not only for His sake, but in His name, as authorized by Him, is a high order of prayer. We would not dare to ask for some things in that blessed name, for it would be a wretched profanation of it; but when the petition is so clearly right that we dare set the name of Jesus to it, then it must be granted.

Prayer is all the more sure to succeed because it is for the Father’s glory through the Son. It glorifies His truth, His faithfulness, His power, His grace, The granting of prayer, when offered in the name of Jesus, reveals the Father’s love to Him, and the honor which He has put upon Him. The glory of Jesus and of the Father are so wrapped up together that the grace which magnifies the one magnifies the other. The channel is made famous through the fullness of the fountain, and the fountain is honored through the channel by which it flows. If the answering of our prayers would dishonor our Lord, we would not pray; but since in this thing He is glorified, we will pray without ceasing in that dear name in which God and His people have a fellowship of delight.

Charles Spurgeon

The key to answered prayers is certainly to be "in His name" but as Charles Spurgeon points out, "not every believer...has... learned to in pray in Christ's name".

Jesus also said, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matt 18:20

Obviously (obvious to me anyway) being "in his name" means more than just pronouncing the name, Jesus. Probably that name is pronounced quite irreverently and frequently in barrooms other places with no good results at all. They are not "in the name".

Yes, again, "in that dear name in which God and His people have a fellowship of delight". Just attending a church will not necessarily get us also
in His name", but it could be a good place to start. Jesus never fail to heal a person He tried to heal. Without ever saying the name [Jesus] was He not always "in the name"?

Perhaps it is another way of saying "in the Spirit [the Holy Spirit that is]"?

Agreed. So much more than just saying His name, yet it is because we know that under no other name are we saved or by which we should send our supplications sent Heavenward by.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Act 4:12

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God. Romans 8:27

I guess a part that many forget is that the prayer this devotional reminds us of is that it should not be self centered, but centered in His will and to His Glory which I would include by the use "In His Name". Too often it is taken lightly. Almost by wrote and repetition are many prayers done. With little reverence to whom we are communicating with.

In another area of my concern is that we seek immediate relief in our requests. From something physical or spiritual before truly looking to see the why. Why do we not look to fulfill His will with the present circumstances we may find ourselves in? Looking at the larger tapestry instead of just a small piece of it.

An example. A week ago I found myself in the Emergency Room for an abdominal pain that had been going on for the previous week. Not understanding the why I had to go through this (All is well now, though still taking medications to alleviate the cause/symptoms). Yet, I was presented with the opportunity to give testimony of God's answering of prayer.

For the purposes of this post, the amazing part is that I was able to give testimony for an answered prayer, due to not receiving immediate relief for another prayer! The nurse was greatly appreciative of it going through things in her own life. I receive great joy in this. Being able even in pain, to give the Glory to God!

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of [his] good pleasure. Philippians 2:13

So we still pray unceasingly, yet always that His will be done and to His Glory! Amen!

Thanks for sharing.
Love you brother!
