Jude 1:3-4 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“3Beloved, although I made every effort to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt it necessary to write and urge you to contend earnestly for the faith entrusted once for all to the saints. 4For certain men have crept in among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”
Salvation
So, what is this salvation being spoken of? How does it take place? What this is speaking of is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (God) in his death on a cross in which He put our sins to death with Him so that, by God-persuaded faith in Him we will now die to sin and obey God and His commandments in life practice. But He didn’t stay dead. He was resurrected from the dead in conquering death, sin, and hell, that we might now walk with Him wherever He leads us in doing whatever He calls and equips us to do, for His glory.
Faith
So what is this faith “entrusted once for all to the saints” he is speaking of? The faith to believe in Jesus Christ for salvation from sin comes from God, it is authored and perfected by Jesus Christ, it is gifted to us by God, and it is not of our own doing lest we should boast that we did something to earn or to deserve our own salvation. This faith is also persuaded of God as to His righteousness and holiness, and of our sinfulness, and of God’s requirement that we deny self, die to sin, and obey God and His commands in practice.
Contend Earnestly
So, what does it look like if we “contend earnestly for the faith” entrusted to us who are of faith in Christ Jesus? Well, first of all we need to be students of the Scriptures who study them in their correct biblical context so that what we are contending for is the biblical truth of the gospel of our salvation and our faith in Jesus Christ and not for the lies which are so popular.
For Jesus taught that if anyone would come after Him that they must deny self, take up their cross daily (die daily to sin and to self), suffer for the sake of Christ and for the sake of the truth of the gospel, and follow our Lord in obedience to Him and to His commands. For if sin remains our practice, and not obedience to God, we will not inherit eternal life with God.
Then we need to be doing what the Scriptures teach we must do if we are to have salvation from sin and eternal life with God, which is what I just stated above. And then we need to be speaking the truth of the gospel of Christ to other people wherever and whenever possible, and we need to be refuting the lies of the enemy. For many people are teaching lies disguised as truth.
Ungodly Ones
Certain men, ungodly men, have crept in among the gatherings of the church and have deceived many people into believing in a false gospel message. And this false gospel deletes from the gospel message the necessity that, by faith in Christ, we die to sin (repent of sin) and obey God and His New Covenant Commands in life practice. They entirely leave out that Jesus’ purpose in His death and resurrection was not just to forgive us our sins and to promise us eternal life with God, but it was to deliver us out of our slavery (bondage) to sin so we will now live for the will of God.
They purposefully skip over the fact that God’s grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we await our Lord’s return. So they turn God’s grace into a license for immorality, which is very evident today with so many “Christians” being addicted to sexual immorality and to adultery. Therefore, many people who are listening to these ungodly men are continuing in deliberate and habitual sin against God, and they are not listening to God nor living to obey God and His commands in life practice.

Open My Eyes, That I May See
Clara H. Scott, 1841-1897
Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for thee,
Ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth thou sendest clear;
And while the wavenotes fall on my ear,
Everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for thee,
Ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my mouth, and let me bear
Gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for thee,
Ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!
