The works of the LORD [are] great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work [is] honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. Psalm 111:2-3 KJV
Have you ever sat around a breakfast or dinner table with a group of Christian men and discussed the works of the Lord—things like creation, redemption, the virgin birth, resurrection, or heaven—in light of what the scriptures say about them? Each topic would take a lifetime to unpack, which is one of the things that fascinates the believer to the point of endless study.
Notice the connection in today’s verse between studying God’s works (as recorded in the Bible) and pleasure. If you had to describe your Bible study habits in one word, what would it be? Does it fall short of pleasure? Sometimes believers encounter periods of spiritual dryness, but God breaks through it at some point if the person keeps seeking Him.
If your time in the Word has been lacking, will you make a fresh commitment to reading and studying it regularly? You are already reading through the Bible as part of this book’s reading plan, and that’s an excellent start. But don’t forget to go deeper by studying the Word. If you aren’t sure how, ask a leader at your church or a trusted Christian friend.
Prayer: Father, I want what the psalmist described—pleasure in studying Your great works. Help me to make this a priority in my life.
