Remember his covenant forever--the commitment he made to a thousand generations. This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant: 1 Chronicles 16:15-17 NLT

Israel brought the ark of God to the special tent that David had prepared for it. After the priests presented burnt and peace offerings, then offered sacrifices, it was time for worship. Today’s verses contain lyrics David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites to sing during that time of worship.

One of the best ways to remain unshakable in your faith is to do what David did—worship the Lord while remembering His faithfulness to a thousand generations. How far back can you trace your family’s spiritual legacy? One generation? Two? Maybe more? Even if you are a first-generation Christian, someone with a spiritual heritage shared the Gospel with you. The point is God was at work in people long before you were born and will continue to be after you have entered glory.

If that sort of perspective doesn’t encourage you to remain faithful, it’s possible that you have lost sight of it. If you have, reread 1 Chronicles 16:8-36 and make it the song of your heart.

Prayer: Father, You’re faithful to a thousand generations. How can I be anything other than faithful in return?
