He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken. Isaiah 25:8 NKJV
Have you ever been going through a difficult time, and a friend tries to encourage you with a meaningless platitude like, “Just hang in there! Things will get better.”
In real life, though, it sometimes seems like our difficulties will never end.
but one of God’s most amazing promises is that there will come a day when the kinds of earthly difficulties we face permanently become things of the past. No more pain, no more death, no more tears…only a joyful eternity in our heavenly Father’s presence.
The apostle John echoed the message of today’s scripture verse when he wrote, “
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
Living on this earth, it’s hard to imagine a time when death, despair, or pain are no longer a part of our existence. But it’s God’s promise to His people, and it’s one that can get us through our most difficult life experiences.
Prayer: Loving Father, I can hardly wait for the day when I can be with You in paradise, where there will be no more death, pain, sickness, or despair. Until that time, help me focus on eternity and to speak words of hope to those who most need to hear them.
